Re: The rising star Daniel Evans :)

If he has the points to qualify directly next year, he'll hopefully play a clay-court season, but there's not much point in rocking up for qualifying as the first clay tournament in ages, with a good chance of losing to a clay court specialist. For the time being, it makes sense to aim for points, safe in the knowledge he'll be playing in the bigger tournaments during the grass court season.

so he is ignoring the clay all together this year.

Not sure that I agree with him missing the French Open, it is a slam after all!

If he does break the top 100 he will need to play the French next year.

He has chosen to play a challenger in Bangkok that week instead. I wouldn't say that he hates clay but his game suits faster courts so tends to avoid playing on the dirt.

Most likely yes but if he gets a nice draw he could win a round or two. He won't be the only guy there who hardly ever plays on clay.

He is heading off the Taiwan and Korea for 2 or 3 hard court challengers starting the week after next. I guess he will play French Open qualifying but that will be it as far as clay goes.

Lost GB F8 final to Halys
Won GB F9

should take him to 260 ish next week. I always thought that if he couldn't make Aussie Open qualifying next year he may as well give up. Luckily since he has no points to defend until May he should make it easy..............
