ATP ACES For Charity Cheque For Luzzi Association

Rome - May 10, 2014

Mid-afternoon Sunday, Fognini presented an ATP ACES For Charity cheque for €15,000 to the Fede Lux Association, which was established in the memory of the Federico Luzzi, who died on 25 October 2008, aged 28.

Fognini said, “I am really happy to help Fedelux and Paola through ATP Aces For Charity. I knew Federico for a very long time and we miss him a lot. Paola [Luzzi's mother] is doing an unbelievable job for the association and she totally deserves our support.”

The Fede Lux Association supports research for the treatment and cure of leukemia. The association organises sporting events to raise money in the fight against leukemia and also finances domiciliary care for patients and their families.

Re: Federico Luzzi Tribute Thread

Makes me sad with the Aus Open coming up... a time to remember him.

Remember watching him play Baghdatis in round 1 of the Aus Open, might have been 2004? 2005? Had a nice chat to him after that match.

Nice Guy, an absolute tragedy.

Re: Federico Luzzi Tribute Thread

There is talk of the new centre court of the Foro Italico to be named after Fede. At least, some people are trying to accomplish this:

Dato che a breve sarà completato e inaugurato il nuovo impianto, rendiamo il giusto omaggio a chi più di tutti ha portato lustro all'Italia nei tornei giovanili nonchè a chi con una vittoria di 4ore e 35min sancì l'inizio della risalita della squadra di coppa Devis dalla serie C.
Non sarà stato un top-ten ma sicuramente è più giusto dare al nuovo impanto il suo nome piuttosto che chiamarlo banalmente "centrale" o con il nome di qualche sposor.

R.I.P. Federico.

I have never see you play, only read your name. But you were a big talent in tennis and more...a human beeing. And it reminds all of us to enjoy every day. Every little day.

We will see us again, in heaven.

Re: Federico Luzzi Tribute Thread

Flávio Saretta gave his condolences about Luzzi's death as well, in his blog. Here's the translation of the part he wrote about it:

"I've been reflecting a lot the last days. Last saturday a guy who used to play tennis with me died, an Italian with the same age as me (Federico Luzzi), he used to play all the junior tournaments with me. He wasn't a big "brother" of mine, but he was a guy which every time I met with him I laughed, he was always saying funny stuff, a good player, he was at the top 100 once. well, he went from this to another... fulminant leukemia! He entered the court to play on Sunday, left it because of a fever, went to the doctor, it seemed like a flu or something, nothing serious, in 3 days he didn't handle it and died. He was 28 years old, I've been with him in these last 2 weeks of tournaments in Europe. My God, this is terrible, then I wonder myself: who are us? what's this all about?

Re: Federico Luzzi is dead

I will move this into the Italian players forum where it can remain as a permanent tribute to Federico Luzzi.

I didn't see his match, only saw the result, but for sure he'd have liked so much more to be in Arezzo.

Again, so am I. And I have to go now to lectures. Don't really know how to do it.
