I saw this guy playing on Ordina Open 2nd Round vs Raemon Sluiter on Eurosport. He was crushed, but he was so damn cool I got a fan of him!

He has an awesome serve, amongst the best I've seen. But no other hit can be close to match it...

I noticed his rank isn't that impressive but he can get better!

Let's go Philipp!

Thanks a lot Eden :hatoff:

Good job. Philipp reaches another QF

He was a big hope when he was a Junior, but then didn't take his career very seriously, wasn't really focussing on tennis, he even considered giving up on tennis at a time. The turning point was in Wimbledon 2006 according to him, he realized he was just wasting his talent and should really give it a try again.
That's why he's such a late bloomer.

I translated a portrait of him in the German tennis magazin at the end of 2007:

Thanks a lot for the biofile, Eden!
I love his "funny tennis memory", but if Peya was laughing so hard that he couldn't even say a word, I don't get why the chair umpire gave them the point, it wouldn't have cracked him up if he had played the ball with his racquet.

Nice from him to mention Gaël as one of the funniest players. :p

But there is one SE spot awarded for a player who made at least the semifinals at Vienna (IS Gold) and didn't make the cut at Madrid. Ferrero can be SE in Madrid too.

Anyway, if Philipp signed in at Tashkent, I don't believe he'll get the SE, even if he beats Moya.

Oh yes, you're right, Pere, sorry - I hadn't checked the entry list, as usual.

It's about Peya, but he says that he will play doubles with Philipp in St-Petersburg, so I guess Philipp will play the qualies there.
He also says that he needs to improve his singles ranking because he now is Philipp's fixed doubles partner, so he has to play the same events as Philipp in singles.

#769 ·
That means at least 6 tournaments in a row for him.

I don't know if it is good to play with an average player like Peya all the time. His volleys are nice, but does he have any other quality?
I was hoping for a doubles with Waske, who wants to come back in Aachen.

Petzschner/Peya d. (1)Nestor/Zimonjic 6-4 3-6 10-6

According to laola1.at, Peya was top class and Petzschner was weak today. I don't know how objective it is, they even wrote "Peya sehr stark - Toller Return von Peya zum 7:4.", although Philipp should be the one returning at 6-4.

Lopez/Verdasco are next, they beat the Polish team 6-3 6-2. Let's hope Peya can keep up his world class level. ;)

Petzschner vs Moya is the 5th match tomorrow. The Austrians don't want to give Melzer's semifinal opponent too much rest I guess.

They won it, what a big point for guys :D
Keep it up Philipp at singles match tomorrow.

#777 ·
I wrote yesterday evening already that it's the fifth match. You probably saw this other schedule on the tournament website, but this schedule was just fucked up and never an official schedule I think.

I wish I had this ORF plus channel. :(

btw Another funny thing is on the ATP site. They have the daily Vienna highlights, but of course not one second of Petzschner-Wawrinka on Monday or Petzschner/Peya yesterday. And I thought the ATP tries to promote the doubles in some way, so why can't they put some highlights from a center court match?

Welcome back Tuga ;)

:woohoo:

I believe Lopez is a much better matchup than Melzer, so I'm happy that Melzer lost. He'll play against Lopez in singles and doubles tomorrow. Please win at least one of them. ;)

Tomorrow Eurosport shows one SF at 14:30.

According to laola1:
13:00
Kohlschreiber - Monfils
Petzschner - Lopez
Mirnyi/Ram - Bhupathi/Knowles
Petzschner/Peya - Lopez/Verdasco

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Philipp def. Carlos. That's amazing result. SF will play another Spanish player Feliciano López.
Go Feliciano and Philipp. Feliciano is also good player on grass and indoor court.

I hope you have found a livestream? Otherwise it's live on the Eurosport Player, as I said in GM, but it's a pay livestream (I had forgotten to cancel my subscription after the US Open).
Hm, I missed that. Will they also stream the final?

EDIT:

They will.

Too bad that I didn't know about that sooner. I wonder if I should invest the 5 Euro for one month. Maybe they'll also stream Basel?

Is anybody watching? What happened when Philipp was smiling on his chair after having broken *3-2? I had turned down the sound because the music during the change-overs is so annoying.

He's on fire! Please hold now, I'm so sick of Lalo's ridiculous grunting when he hits a volley.
