Since I only started posting my plays (mainly football & tennis) at the back end of last year after registering on MTF in August 2006, the coming weeks represent my first chance to post a full season of recorded football plays here. So in this thread that is what I shall be doing, recording the season in full (every football play I make, regardless of which league/competition/age - including all types of plays from match plays to outrights to specials and other markets if I feel there is something out there).

I will be posting my plays on a basis of a level of 1-10. 1 unit = £100 representing an "interest" play, with 10 units = £1000 being a max play.

Even though a few of you know privately I no longer play the game as a pro due to various factors from burnout to the opening of other doors in the sporting world, for the rest of you that is the reasoning behind a max level of £1000 per play. I am looking for relativity and consistency over the season and even though I like to branch out every now and again with a "Heavy Duty Single", which in my language represents a stake over the £1000 limit I am setting here, I shall no longer be making any Heavy Duty Single plays to keep up a relatively consistent staking plan regarding the max play limit.

From August my MTF use is likely to be sparing, so the time I do spend here will be mainly to continually keep this thread current and updated. I welcome any questions on matches, any exchange of views and even any criticisms (but please keep it constructive :hatoff: ). :D

Enough talk from me, to kick off the 2007/2008 season which I shall conclude no later than the Copa Libertadores Final 2nd leg (to be played in late June 2008)...here are my first two plays of the season.

The books I generally use are WH, SJ and UB. I do not use BF and I will not be for reasons previously stated. There will be good days and bad as you all will know, the aim is long term and as long as there is a healthy profit come June next year that will be the litmus test. Totals will be recorded in simple fashion on a money out - money in business. My previous play on Argentina OR @ 7/2 for the U20 WC will not be taken into account here as the play was made before this adventure begun. So in terms of this thread, that potential win is irrelevant to me.

Level 8 (£800) Argentina to beat Czech. Rep (U20WC Final) in 90mins @ 8/13
Potential payout (SI - Stake Inc.) - £1292.31

Level 3 (£300) Rosenborg to beat Viking @ 4/5
Potential payout (SI) - £540

Current Record: 0-0 (-£1100)

Hopefully the season will start on track and the base can be built from there, we don't want to be chasing shadows early in the season.

I hope the opening match of the tournament isn't going to be a sign of things to come for me. A Czech win was the worst result of the three for me, and it might have been bearable had they actually done something to merit victory. A mishit off the shin wins it for the Czechs and the Swiss don't get two blatant penalties.

True, Ryan. Switzerland showed no quality infront of goal. However, Czechs showed even less and were not deserving of a win.

Portugal winning has helped me on a few fronts - the pick on them to top the group and qualify - and it's also helped bring my Swiss/Czech bets back in with a minor shout.

Hopefully Portugal beat Czech.Rep, Swiss beat Turkey, and then it'll come down to the last game where I'd like to see Portugal relax against the hosts and let them sneak a win or draw, while Turkey get a win off the Czechs. Although Turkey's motivation at that point would be questionable given they'd essentially be out.

I have also backed against the Czech's to qualify but I fear the worst now. Frei is the Swiss's only goalscorer of note and he is probably going to be out for the tournament. Even with him, they lacked the cutting edge.
Turkey are not as good as I expected either.
Czech's will probably go through by default. Germany will kill them in the quarters.

It was a big blow. If the Swiss had got a point, I'd have been content and still confident of the Czechs going out. Ref didn't have the bottle to give the Swiss an injury time penalty. And if they can't get one in their own tournament in the opening game, then it doesn't bode well for the remainder of their matches.

I'm also pretty fucked off with that shin goal the Czechs scored as I've got a bunch of Swiss defenders in various fantasy games and that really screwed me from a nice little start with a bunch of clean sheets.

I bet you were shitting yourself last 15/20 minutes jayjay- Croatia started of well but looked so tired last 20 minutes completly on their legs- just Germany now for the double best of luck pal

Romania have been pretty solid JayJay, France have hardly been convincing against Paraguay, Spain, Ukraine and Morocco, they won only 3 out of their last 7 games (England, Ecuador and Colombia) and Romania, since the 26th May 2006, they have lost only 3 games out of 22 (Bulgaria, Israel and Germany). They have won 15 out of these 22 and have beaten the likes of Turkey, Russia, Spain and Holland. Romania also won their qualifying group, picking up 29 points out of 36 and in 12 games only conceded 7 goals.

Will be a tight game but who knows, could really go either way even a delightful draw.

The 17/1 on Villa looks huge now great pick that one m8, i thought the switz were unlucky to concede such a late goal but ive seen better defending from Stafford rangers!

They gave everything but lacked quality,

Looks like I got it wrong about Turkey, a draw will not do them. If it's a draw, the rule book says penalties will determine the winner if two sides have the same points, followed by equal head to head and same goals scored/conceaded.

Doubt that has ever happened before.

I think Turkey should be allowed to go through in that case since the Czech goal against the Swiss came off the guys fucking shin and he didn't have a clue where it was going. :D

Uruguay need the 3 points, they can't afford to have two home games in succession that weren't against Argentina/Brazil and not come away with a win from either of them.

They should have beaten Venezuela but they didn't. On paper you'd probably just edge picking Uruguay ahead of the draw. But I don't anything about anything anyway, so no point in asking me to be honest.

Cheers, mate. :hatoff:

By the way m8 think you got your calculations wrong youve gone from -£6070.50 then put on bets worth £1300,£863.64,£1470 and you put overal -£7570.50

Shouldnt it be around 8100? unless i'm going mad
Those are the potential returns.

The stakes for those three bets are £500/£300/£700 = £1500.

-£6070.50 now down to -£7570.50

Lol Uruguay 6-0 Peru

It must be russia tonight, so many things in their favour, arshavin back, zlatan out for the swedes.

Hiddink had a similar all or nothing game with australia when they played croatia in the world cup 2006.

And he pulled it off.

Lets hope he can do it again.

Hot pics by the way jay.

To be honest, I'd say that the 11/10 on offer for Ecuador to win is better value than the 8/11 or so on offer for Colombia to win on the handicap. Ecuador are a decent side (they just had a poor start to the qualifiers), as they proved at our place, and as LDU Quito have proven in the Libertadores making the final (with the national team having quite a few of their players).

Ecuador need to win games like this for qualification, so the desperation for them is there to not just be happy with a point. Good luck with whatever you do with it. :)
