Re: Time up?

I think it's all about adopting a new mentality. When your mindset isn't working for you, it needs to be fixed. Maybe if he didn't place so much emphasis on these matches, the serve would become less of an issue. Entering some very lowly events is a potential solution, he should be able to win some matches. He needs to think, there will always be another match to play. Just go out there and have some fun, enjoy tennis and if he gets back to his old level well that's just a bonus.

Anyway, I don't know better than Guille and it would be stupid for me to believe I can offer him advice on his situation, but the most important thing is that he's at a good place in his personal life and these losses are being taken in his stride.

The serve wasn't that bad in Casablanca and Paris, so the fact alone that he had again one of his worst service days in Stuttgart should not be reason enough to retire, even though it was horribly discouraging to see.
But I'm aware the circumstances will make it very hard for him to keep trying.
Maybe this feeling that the time is ticking away also explains his terrible serving display yesterday.

yep. yep. yep.

I don't know what he should do, really. It just seems such a waste to retire when he is able to play like he did at times lately and today again.
I am now quite convinced he's doing better at ATP level and Challengers might be just too much for a proud guy like him. He has played only a couple of ATP events, possibly not enough to really fix that serving issue.
Unfortunately, the clay season is almost over now. And he won't be able to use his PR much longer anyway, he will need WC everywhere. It's a very tough situation... I found it easier a few months ago when I thought the serve had contaminated his whole game and he was probably not really motivated to keep playing like crap anyway!

Re: Time up?

Well, when we started this discussion, I hadn't seen him play for ages and it seemed hopeless. It was not just the serve. You said the whole attitude sucked in Napoli, Raffaele, the fitness, the game...

Now I've seen him play, 3 times in a row, and the situation is very different than I thought! As long as he manages to get the serve under control, he's playing way too well to retire.
I'm still hoping he doesn't give up yet and keeps trying since the rest of his game is still looking competitive imo and it really sucks if he has to give up only because of the serve.
But I won't be annoyed anymore if he retires because I don't doubt anymore he's been trying, very hard - and it was so sad to see this afternoon that his serve doesn't improve at all despite of all his efforts, I will totally understand if he can't take it any longer.

Re: Time up?

btw bad year for all coria's fans because this comeback had been hoped for different results. unfortunately it didn't happen
watching him doing so many dfs it's hard and a former champion like him is not made for a kind of tennis as the one he played today.
time to say good bye

Re: Time up?

one instinct is never give up.

another instinct is not to heighten a situation of ridicule where his legacy of greatness becomes fully eclipsed by this era of double-faulting and inability.

i feel for oscar coria wanting to protect his son from the worst. i care more that he not become miserable as a person than whether he wins or not. this kind of thing has to be killing him.

Re: Time up?

Shocking result against Cipolla now...
I'm still hopeful, but I get the feeling that if i wasn't a fan of his I'd rate his chances of a comeback as extremely low. Not that I expect one as it is

Re: Time up?

Yes i think that to....
I still believe in Coria he will get back once....
slumps can go very long but if you keep fighting and believing you will make it.

i also had a slump for 1 1/2 years becaus a coach changed my forehand and the timing was nowhere and now i play twohanded forehand, there are many ways to get out of a slump! i also play high level ..not pro yet

so i say VAMOS CORIA !!!!
