yeah and he made the final of San Marino last week which is a very high tier event on the Challenger circuit, so well done! Doesn't seem to be playing this week..
We saw Albert play in the states - New Haven - last week. Good match, tough three-set loss to Andreev. He's a very nice guy, though; obviously a hard worker who deserves the good results he's had this year.
(8)Montanes, Albert ESP vs Devilder, Nicolas FRA
Mayer, Florian GER vs Hanescu, Victor ROU (WC)
Pavel, Andrei ROU (WC) vs Hernandez, Oscar ESP
Vliegen, Kristof BEL vs Starace, Potito ITA(3)
Thats his bucharest draw.
He past his first round match!!!
6-3 6-1
He didnt have a well service perscentage at a meer 49%. But suerte Albert in your next round. And continue to climb up the rankings
He won his first title!!! Montanes def. Darcis 1:6 7:5 6:3
i watched him play all week in amersfoort, and he played very good..I can say that i am quite a fan now that i have finally see him play in person
First set he played really bad, after 12 minutes he was already 5:0 down. After that he immediately broke in the second set to 4:1, then got broken back to 5:5 and eventually claimed the set 7:5. In the final set Darcis lost his confidence and Albert won!!
He was really sweet when i met him.. After the match he gave autographs to lots of children and posed for photos and stuff.
I"m so happy Albert won his first title in my city! I was there for the Semi final on saturday, and wish I was there for the final too, but that was impossible. I really want to see him more in the future, he's such a sweet and nice guy Got to meet him after his SF match, and saw him of course in Stuttgart too, the week before.
hehe like you Sabrina, I am quite a fan of him now too
as promised: here is a photo from the ceremony on sunday, i hope you wil like it all:
from left to right Cermak & Wassen (winners doubles), Darcis (runner-up), Albert (with his huge trophy : D ),Sijsling & Huta Galung (runner-up doubles)
Thanks to my friend Evelien for sending me this photo! i hope i will get more soon..
really odd that montanes doesn't look to happy with his prize
After a not surprising Australian season in which Albert went 0-3, he's now on his favorite dirt for the SA swing.
Unfortunately at Vina, Albert lost to Cuevas after having a bye. Made the semis of doubles though, that's not too bad.
Next up is Costa do Sauipe, where Albert again is the #3 seed but unfortunately drew Ferrero first round. That being said, Ferrero is outside of the top 100 and not playing well, so Albert definitely has a chance.
Also, Albert reached a career high of 40 in the world last week
A strong showing on this SA swing could have his ranking really looking good.
Good luck Albert
