He's not defending anything in Shanghai after R1 loss last year so he'll only drop after it if one extra player advances past his total. Which is of course possible, Monfils the most likely candidate. But no certainty he improves on last year.

One thing I'll be looking for is whether he gets a week as #16 and or #17 somewhere down the line, the only positions in the top-25 he hasn't currently had before.

Not nice, no, but it is what it is.

He's at least adding a couple more weeks to his already record consecutive streak of being ranked in the top-8. He's at 726 now. Connors stopped at 705. With nothing to defend at Shanghai he should stay top-8 until Basel points drop.

Well we shall see. I hope the back won't bother him anymore.

ETA: I checked the race, and Roger isn't as far as I thought. So he might not need to pull a Murray provided he plays well. Winning a slam will get him to the WTF.

Now he has lots of points to defend with Halle and Wimbledon and later on with Cincinnati and US Open. Thankfully he has added Stuttgart and he didn't play in Canada last year. Plus he lost early in Shanghai and Paris.

I wonder if he's going to pull a Murray to qualify for the WTF.

He's guaranteed until after Barcelona.

For Wawrinka to pass him before RG he'd need to score 880 points more than Fed in the runup. To do it before Rome will take more, since Fed is defending a final there.
