If Tsonga takes AO, which could happen now that his worst matchups are out, he would pass Cilic.

Wow, amazing bump. There had been a lot of hype around Korolev -- I remember liking his baseline style and thinking he could go far in the sport; I believe one year I saw him lose in a great match in the final round of qualies at the US Open, to an American who specialized on grass (forget his name). At the time it was a worrying but far from fatal loss, but he never pushed through in a significant way.

From the original list, in retrospect it's not surprising that it was the shortest guys with the least success overall. Korolev and Young weren't built big enough for the modern sport; they peaked as juniors.

Otherwise, only Tsonga and Cilic turned out to be credible top 10 players from the entire list.

Great to see this resurgence from the extremely talented and varied all-court Mischa Zverev, with inspiration coming from his younger brother. Incredible story.

I like how Cilic was underestimated on MTF from the get go. Nothing changed.

Rublev the new Korolev?

AO2017 is best chance for Zverev and Tsonga to live up to their hype from 10 years ago.

I can't believe how hyped Korolev was on the first pages of this thread. I mean, WTF? Above Tsonga, Cilic, Gulbis...Was he so special 6 years ago or what?
I watch tennis regularly and can recognize most of top 150 players but I don't have a clue who Korolev even is, never watched him play and it looks like there won't even be a chance. What a fail.
Zverev isn't much better. Made some noise few years back, but nowhere to be seen lately.

Nobody else has done half as much as Tsonga has done.

Tsonga for sure but none of these guys in the OP's original list have accomplished anything significant and most of them failed miserably. The Part 1 list did bring some great champions.

AJ, I'd suggest you create the Part 3 with Dimitrov, Tomic, Jerzy, Goffin, Harrison etc ...

Tsonga was the only one who lived up to the hype.

From those 8 Tsonga is and will be the only Slam contester. The others are so far from him...

Re: Part 2 : Which one of these 8 youngsters will have the best career? Cilic, etc e

Gulbis : Who really knows what will become of him

Korolev : Got married most significant thing he has done in ages.

Tsonga : Easily the best of this lot, helps not being out of the game for years, capable of beating the big guys, but inconsistency will remain.

Cilic : Gets a stupid amount of hate at this place, not like he cheats like Robredo, can agitate like Almagro, irritate people with antics like Tomic. Works hard, hope he comes back to the tour soon.

Young : No DY, start 2011 outside top 100, finish the year in the top 50. So he sacks the coaches there and brings mamma back on board, not good. If he wins a title likely to be one of the smaller US events.

Querrey : Gets a lot of crap, for not liking tennis, looking like a tourist. Even with the limited game barring injury problems should finish the year inside top 100.

Zverev : Had to rebuild his serve after some injury issues, slow process.

Bolelli : Had some injuries, but struggled in the past year to come back.
