:retard: people.

How can they rather watch a ballbashing chokefest WTA 6-2 6-2 joke of a match than (almost always) a high quality mens match.
I know some babes are so watchable but so are some men.

Thats sad.

Maybe you should check the history of ratings for tennis before making that statement.

Dominance brings in ratings. Federer has gotten more hype than any non-American player ever other than manybe Borg, but the media situation was entirely different then.

Here's the full article about TV ratings in the US for the two finals. So much for the theory that women's tennis out-draws men's:

Television ratings drop for finals

NEW YORK (AP) -- The overnight TV ratings for both U.S. Open singles finals dropped from last year.

The men's final, in which Roger Federer beat Novak Djokovic, drew a 4.2 overnight rating on CBS on Sunday, down from a 5.1 for Federer against Andy Roddick in 2006.

The women's final, in which Justine Henin defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova, got a 2.6 overnight rating on CBS on Saturday night. That's a decline from the 3.2 CBS got in 2006, when Henin lost to Maria Sharapova.

The overnight ratings measure the 55 biggest television markets, covering about 70 percent of the country.

On the other hand, they are still better than when Roddick won in 2003!!!!
Fed draws better raitings than Roddick did. I love it.

It's just that you don't get to see the No.1 & No.2 playing in a Grandslam final very often in Men's tennis.

Plus there has been an Aussie in 4 of the 5 finals since 1998

2000/2001 - Rafter
2002 - Hewitt
2003 - Philippoussis

So with no Aussie and a delayed finish that would be no surprise.

The point is: Roddick is not that big a draw; Roddick against a no-name would not have higher ratings; Roger was not as well known last year; Federer-Roddick, which was a potentially interesting matchup, made more people tune in.
Anyway, the larger picture is that non-American players need to be promoted in the US. If people in other countries can follow and watch sports stars not from their countries, I am sure Americans, being human, can do the same. This reliance on an American to always dominate tennis is dangerous because it won't always work that way, and the industry needs to adapt and think outside the box to come up with fresh ideas about how to increase foreign players' popularity in the US. Some people are already talking about Donald Young dethroning Federer!

Are you saying that when a final produces a match-up that wasnt so predicted, more people will tune in out of curiousity?
For the Fed-Roddick match, I think a lot of people were interested in the match-up from the start. Last year, Fed was not as well known and as established as he is now, so it is difficult to compare the 2 years ratings. For the FO final, it was on tape delay I think, so probably people knew it was a weird match already and tuned in out of curiousity.
