Re: What Racquet do you use?

I have been using light weight raquets under 10 OZ

Babolat Drive Lite ( NXT 17L & Technifibre NRG2 17)
Wilson Burn Team 100 ( Luxilon ALU power rough 17L / Xcel 17)

Re: What Racquet do you use?

Update using the Pure Drive: Holy crap, I can see why so many ATP and WTA pros use this racquet. It's so versatile and able to generate a nice blend of power, control and spin for a whole lot of playing styles. Compared to the Pure Strike, it's got a touch more pop. I'm sure compared to the Pure Aero it's a little less power and spin.

I play a lot like a Clijsters, so this really suits my game.

I also recommend Babolat Origin strings. They're REALLY comfortable. I've seen people complaining about how stiff this racquet is and I have felt none of that with these strings.

Re: What Racquet do you use?

I'm a 5.0 tennis player who needs a little more pop than my Pure Strike has been giving me, so I'm switching to the Pure Drive.

Having suffered from TE with a light stiff racket (APD stick), I had to change to a heavier racket. I now have Pure Strike Tour strung at 52/50 poly. It seems to be fine for my arm.

Syn gut at 57 seems okay. Poly at 57 is a little on the high side especially with the lighter racket you have and TE problems. I would string the poly at no more than 55, especially if it is strung with a constant pull machine.

It is hard to recommend strings like this. Depends on your style, skill level, budget, how much are you willing to experiment, elbows, ...

Which level are you? If you think you are playing fine with synth gut than stay with them. You might check some multifilament strings, since they generally have better feel than synth gut, but are more expensive. I would start with low 50s tension and than adjust depending on where your balls land.

Of course, if you have infinite budget and don't play in a wet weather use natural gut, nothing beats it but it is expensive.

Currently I play with Wilson ProStaff RF 97 (used to play with 90) and use poly strings (textured Luxilon Alu Power rough in mains, and smooth Head Hawk in crosses) strung at low 50s (RF97) or high 40s (90), but would not recommend polys to everyone, especially people with tender elbows. Also you need to restring polys regularly - every couple of months at least if you use two racquets and play couple of times per week like me.

I am 4.0 left-handed baseline basher with OHBH.

What strings and tension do you recommend? I play mostly from the baseline with a good serve, strong forehand and a slice back hand thanks

57 is high tension and pure strike is a stiff racquet. All that combined with poly strings might spell trouble for a fragile elbow.

Re: What Racquet do you use?

Babolat Pulsion 102 RG/FO. But I'm not sure whether it was a good choice. I'm playing tennis only for two months, and started to notice, that I began to feel tired rather quickly. Maybe it's because I'm newbie in all this or the reason is wrong racquet?

It rewards taking a big cut at the ball because, despite it not weighing very much and being very evenly balanced, it is control racket with some pop. It takes a big cut to reap the reward (which is great, because I've got Clijsters strokes going on). If I was out of balance, not using proper footwork though, it was easy to dump the ball into the net or hit it too short.

Very mobile and surprisingly sturdy are words that I use to describe this. I was taking almost reckless cuts at the ball and I could not hit it out when I did that. Any sort of timidity though and it was actually easy to hit into the net.

Some people think it's hard to get a biting slice, and I did NOT find it that hard. In fact, I found myself going for slices, touch shots, and angles because this racket gave me so much more spin. I could see my rally shot was giving my friend a lot of problems, because this racket seemed to add weight to each groundstroke.

If you're like me and take big cuts at the ball, this is the racket for you. I think this was supposed to be or was Tsonga's racket of choice at one point in time. I think this racket will be the new go to for aggressive hitters who like Babolat rackets.

Re: What Racquet do you use?

Gave in to the hype. Proud new owner of Wilson Pro Staff RF97 Autograph.

Definitely more forgiving and less control than pro staff 6.1 90, but I like it after stringing to a higher tension - 52 vs 48 mains.

Re: What Racquet do you use?

Update on the Pure Strike: I've got a stiff poly in there, and I'm enjoying the fact that I need to take a big cut at the ball or else it won't do anything. I've been hitting a heavier ball since. Backhand slice has particularly been doing well.

However, the second serve has lost a touch of spin, especially if it's not hit perfectly in the center.
