Lights Out (2016) - 7.5/10 - Thanks @TheBigFourFTW . I don't think it was better than Hush and Don't Breathe, but still a very good horror movie. Diana scared the hell out of me. Btw, that actress who played Rebecca's role is Mark Webber's wife, no?

Fences (2016) - 6.0/10 - Despite Denzel's acting being superb as usual, I found this movie very average. So far, the worst of the 4 best picture nominations I watched.

The Discovery (2017) - IMDb 6,3/10
Split (2016) - IMDb 7,4/10
Mine (2016) - IMDb 6,1/10

I recommend all 3 of them. Great story in all 3 of them, I won't say much, so I don't spoil your watching.

The last three films I watched were:
The Fog (the original with Adrienne Barbeau, Janet Leigh, and Jamie Lee Curtis) - still makes me jump;
Them! - b+w classic;
Jaws, The Revenge (was watching the previous three, then we had to complete the series) - ahem!

I had it, but ages ago, can't even remember the login data.

Give my rating here mostly for fun.

Hidden Figures (2016) - 8.5/10 - Even though those movies with racist stories become quite frequent the last few years, most of them are pretty good. This was was a masterpiece.

Hell or High Water (2016) - 8.0/10 - Good crime thriller. Starts well, then got boring in the middle, but finishes great.

No, I've seen only one of the two but I'm familiar with the work of the other 'author'.

Kong: Skull Island 7/10

Terrible charactisation aside which is not really an important criticism, this is purely just fun large-scale exploitation camp in the realm of Pacific Rim. Doesn't really aim high; nothing more, nothing less. Strong Apocalypse Now vibes.

Logan 8/10

The best X-Men movie alongside Days of Future Past. Although once again, it has the familiar Marvel movie syndrome where the villains suck and are sidelined by the heroes, this is a solid slow-burner that is devoid of the superhero tropes ala The Dark Knight and Spider Man 2 style that combines the grittiness and bleakness of The Road and the critically acclaim Naughty Dog game, The Last of Us.

For a serial killer mystery movie, what's so thrilling about it is that it defies all the typical Hollywood cliches for its genre, such as chases and blood & gore and sticks to the grounded reality tone with all the police investigative procedural work. It's a type of movie that feels like that it could actually happen in real life, which the movie indeed is based on for the subject manner and that's what makes it so scary
Zodiac was indeed quite terrifying. Even the color schemes toward the end were truly frightening.

Can't believe it got less than 8 in IMDb

If you like The Wolf of Wall Street (which came out the same year), then you'll like this.

Summertime Switch (1994) - 7.2/10 - I think this is a very underrated comedy. Sadly, it's very tough to find. I remember watching a few times in my school time, so I was very happy to find it on TV the other day and remember the movie.

Assassin's Creed (2016) - 5.5/10 - Not bad, but not special either. As usual with movies coming from good videogames, the movie is not nearlt as good as the game. Why they didn't use Ezio as the main character?

Blair Witch (2016) - 6.8/10 - I remember watching "The Blair Witch Project" in 2000 and getting really disappointed. As a teenager, I was a big fan of scary movies at that time and I was expecting way more. But I found this one on Netflix yesterday and decided to give it a shot. Not a great movie, but I didn't get as disappointed as I got with the old movie. It has his moments.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 9/10

This is as good of a post-apocalyptic movie that explores every facet of the human condition as it can be. I really like the ratio of screen-time that we get for the humans and apes because it helps to not alienate and be bias to the audience (human) by considering the ongoing equilibrium struggle of two races. I also really like the outlook that when the chips are down and all morality and humanity is lost, both sides are driven by their inner-most "primitive instincts" to survive. Like I said before, it's the exploration of the human condition in its most pure, naked form.

The CGI on the apes is phenomenal and I never felt like they were "unreal" during those ape scenes. Ironically, the performance and characterization of Caesar is one of the best and humane I've seen for a movie in recent years.

Zodiac 8/10

Pain & Gain 8/10
