Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I would go with the 80's though my interest was very selective at the time. I became kinda addicted to tennis in the late 80's and never looked back. You won't believe how many pots got burned while watching tennis or how my schedule revolves around tennis, "I am telecommuting this friday," is my favorite excuse during great matches. Is that addiction enough? I guess that could be a different thread.
Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I was born in 1982, and I guess I first watched tennis in the early 90s when I started playing. I know this is the men's board, but it was Monica Seles that really got me into tennis
Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I started to play at the age of 6 back in 1986 and my coach used to take me to watch all the matches we could possibly watch, and the everyday duty was to spend an hour watching taped match with my coach's comments and analysis of the game. I was only 6, and could hardly understand all that tactical stuff, but it was still useful.
Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I was born in 1985 and started watching tennis very early. My first clear memory is Kafelnikov winning Roland Garros, but I have many fragmented memories from earlier than that. As I started playing when I was six, I guess I probably started watching in 1991-1992. I've always followed it very seriously.
Me too! Although I started a few days earlier than you :ras:. In particular, I decided to watch the Daniilidou-Sharapova match on Day 1 since it was shown on TV primetime (and for patriotic reasons ). Unfortunately, Eleni didn't play well at all and was crushed. sad: I had so many expectations after she had beaten JHH at Wimbledon a couple of months earlier.) In any case, after that I became addicted.

Must admit it was in the eighties and it was because of a kid who had a 120mp serve and a huge forehand back then...his name was Pete Sampras he was my first favorite player. Then Lendl and Agassi were my other favorites.
Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I reckon around 1994-1995. I used to enjoy watching the Aus Open during stinking hot days when you couldn't be bothered doing anything else because of the heat. I couldn't get enough of watching Davenport play, and I hated mens tennis because as a 5 year old I found it difficult to sit through 5 set matches.
In the second round Roddick overcame Michael Chang while cramping in a tough five-setter. In the third round Roddick retired in the third set against Lleyton Hewitt after injuring his leg.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
The first tennis match I watched was the 2004 USO 1/4 final with Roddick. But I've been consistently watching and following tennis since Wimbledon 2005.

1993 during the Australian summer. Saw a match on TV between Edberg and Woodbridge and became hooked and an Edberg fan (a shame it was so late in his career ).
Although I've been going to the Australian Open every year since 1996 I haven't been able to follow the sport properly since I got the internet in about 2000 or 2001 - very hard to get scores here if you don't have internet!
Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
The first match I recall was McEnroe def. Borg, Wimbledon 1981. Have followed the sport ever since.
I do remember watching the "Battle of the Sexes" between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in (wow!) 1973. Aside from that, however, nothing really stands out prior to McEnroe-Borg.
