A few pics of their match in Hamburg against Wawrinka-C. Rochus, I thought they played well. They put up some nice little choke jobs when they had to close it out, but finally got the job done - it would have been a shame if they had choked it away, as they really were the better team:

Re: ~*~ OLIVER MARACH (AUT) ~*~

Well, this thread seems a good enough place for my 10,000th post [someone had too much time on their hands over the years!].

I just heard Oliver got married a little over a week ago. Here are a couple of photos of him and Jessie (from laola1.at; the GEPA website has more - watermarked). Lukasz Kubot was there of course.

This week Oli and Lukasz are in Stuttgart, as the number 1 seeds. They defeated Chardy/Mathieu 63 63, and play the winner of [wc]Delgado/J Murray vs [wc]Greul/Kohlmann.

Yep!
I like Waske though, so am glad he got a little further into a tournament. I never realised he was so old [in tennis player years, anyway].

This week:
QUEENS
(5)Lukasz Kubot/Oliver Marach (POL/AUT) bye
Lleyton Hewitt/Andy Murray (AUS/GBR) vs Rajeev Ram/Andy Roddick (USA)
Andrei Pavel/Horia Tecau (ROU) vs (WC)Colin Fleming/Kenneth Skupski (GBR)
(2)Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan (USA) bye

Marach df Patience 67[4] 64 61 =)
He will now play Santiago Ventura, who was seeded 3rd in qualifying. In doubles with Lukasz, they will play the team of Devilder/C.Rochus.

Some photos of 'Olivier':

Re: ~*~ OLIVER MARACH (AUT) ~*~

Oli and Lukasz are trying to qualify for Casablanca singles. Well, Lukasz *was*, until Oli beat him in the second round 75 64. He beat Naso in round one I believe, and will play Olivier Patience [4th seed] to get into the main draw.

Re: ~*~ OLIVER MARACH (AUT) ~*~

I found an old article [and pics] of a charity event Oli was in last year. If anyone is interested, the website is: http://www.thedappp.com/index.html

Welcome to the DAPPP: Canada's Fastest Growing Charity Ping-Pong Circuit
2008 Commissioner's Cup a Smashing Success

Jamie Nicholls and the DAPPP Executive Committee are pleased to announce that the 2008 Commissioner's Cup was a great success! Both the men's and women's events saw new contenders take the title, as Oliver Marach took the men's event over Coulter Wright, and Sonja Jeyaseelan took out Lenore Hodgson on the women's side.

The DAPPP Executive Committee is very happy to announce that we were able to contribute $6,000 to Second Harvest as our charity partner for the Commissioner's Cup. See below for a quote from a letter received from Second Harvest:

On behalf of Second Harvest I would like to send out a big thank you for everything you have done for us, and our recipients. We were blown away with your donation of $6,000 (that’s enough money to provide 12,000 meals – an amazing achievement). I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed your event. So thank you again – you guys are great!

Second Harvest is a Toronto charity that distributes fresh food from those with excess to those without. (www.secondharvest.ca) The DAPPP Executive Committee hopes all of the friends of the DAPPP continue to support Second Harvest on an ongoing basis, whenever possible.

The latest rankings have been released and posted, and to see how you stack up against the competition after the Commissioner's Cup, check out the Rankings as of February 1, 2008.

The DAPPP events are a great success thanks to the efforts of its' attendees to abide by our dress code policies. The Commissioner's Cup was a great example of how this can be done to its best, and was wholeheartedly embraced by all the attendees. See Pictures for many examples of both Hilarious Formal Wear and White Clothing while on court.

Semi-final! Not bad at all. Lots of errors in the semi, maybe they were a little rattled; I wouldn't expect to see that kind of tennis from either Oli or Lukasz. SF of a GS is a top effort.

Article featuring Nestor, after Oli/Lukasz df #1 seeds:

Quote:
THE CANADIAN PRESS

Melbourne, Australia – Canadian Daniel Nestor and Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic exited the Australian Open on Friday after being upset 7-5, 6-4 by Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Oliver Marach of Austria in the second round.

Nestor, who has 55 doubles titles to his credit, won the tournament in 2002 with Mark Knowles. And he won six titles with Zimonjic last year, including Wimbledon, the Rogers Cup in Toronto and the Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Kubot and Marach, together since 2006, did not play together at the ATP level last season, but reached the third round in Melbourne in 2007. "They played well, hitting the ball hard and making a lot of big shots," said Nestor, seeded first in the doubles. "We probably got a bit rattled at the end of the first set.

"It's not that we were expecting them not to play well, but it might have been too much thinking about them and not enough about playing our game and staying relaxed. They ran the table from 5-5 in the first set to 0-4 in the second, we tried to dig out of a hole but we couldn't."

Nestor, 36, and Zimonjic both became first-time fathers in December. The Toronto left-hander said the baby is waiting at home, but first he has a mixed doubles challenge with Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que.

"I have other responsibilities now, but my mixed partner has been waiting to play for a few days. I have to give it my best." "But we would have hoped to have done better."

The match lasted 98 minutes, with Nestor and Zimonjic converting just one of five break points. Their opponents were good on three of six. Nestor, in his 15th Australian Open, made the quarter-finals last year at Melbourne and the semifinals the year before. He went out in the first round the two years before that.
