Because he's a croatian from Bosnia. In Bosnia, there are bosniaks, croatians and serbians, and he's a croatian!

I had hope after he broke back in the second set. Anyway, I really hope he can defend his US Open points and end his season on a high note.

I think that the nationality of the parents is what defines his nationality not where he was born and you have to remember that when he was born it was Yugoslavia. In games they always say that he is a Croat - but sometimes they also say his name wrongly so maybe that is not proof. As for the language there is still conflict over where or not they should be called Serbian and Croatian or Serbo-Croat (although most linguists now agree that they are seperate languages) but there is no official language called Bosnian. If he moved around a lot there will probably be elements of both languages in his speech but his grammar will probably come from where ever he did his highest level of education. That would be Croatia I think. Unless there is some Croat/Serb/Bosnian on the board who could tell you which accent he has.

Re: Marin Cilic-new hope for croatian tennis

Hey guys, I managed to bump into Marin several times at the AO - here's what happened

You might remember that I mentioned seeing Marin and Gulbis practice together on Tuesday before their first round matches. Well, my friend saw Marin for the first time and fell completely in love with him. We watched both of his first two matches, but my friend had to leave early on Thursday because she had to work that evening.

After the match, I tried to chase down Marin to get his autograph but the security men were already herding him away Being the nice kid he is, he was still signing autographs as he walked away. I managed to catch up with him when he was near the main walkway.... Then I realised that my friend forgot to return my pen before leaving for work So no Marin autograph for me that day

We had Vodafone tickets for Saturday (the day of his third-round match) but Marin was on Rod Laver we tried to buy Rod Laver tickets, but there were so many people queuing up (because it was raining so heavily outside, so there was no play on the smaller courts.)

We also tried to swap our Vodafone tickets for Rod Laver ones just for the duration of Marin's match, because Blake and Grosjean were playing on Vodafone but we didn't want to watch them. Unfortunately nobody wanted to trade

In the end we were both frustrated and sad, we ended up watching the match on the big screen outside in the rain. We sat underneath my umbrella and cheered for every point as if we were inside actually watching him everyone else outside wasn't really into it We were so happy when he won - we were shouting "AJMO MARINEEEEEEE!"

The next day my friend and I hunted down Marin's practice court, and we finally saw him walking past while watching Jamie Murray's mixed doubles match. We sat beside the court throughout his whole session (it was a tiny court at the very end of the grounds) and nobody else was there except a middle-aged Croatian man. Marin must've thought we were crazy fangirls, coz we've been stalking him practically every day

We managed to get his autograph and a photo with him. The story behind how I managed to get my photo taken with him was quite embarassing http://www.menstennisforums.com/show...&postcount=473

We were also at Marin's match against Blake we made a big yellow sign with AJMO MARIN! on it. I'm not sure if he saw it but we were a couple of rows from the front, and we sat directly opposite his chair
