Czech doubles star Leos Friedl won his first ATP singles match since 2000! :aparty:
Czech doubles star Leos Friedl stunned seventh-seeded Argentine Carlos Berlocq 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-1 to reach the second round of the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar Tuesday. Qualifier Friedl, who last year won an ATP-best six doubles titles, claimed only his second ATP singles victory and next meets Chilean wild card Jorge Aguilar.
Friedl had not played a main draw ATP singles match since October 2001 in Basel (l. to Malisse). His one victory before today came against Italian Davide Sanguinetti in 2000 in the first round of Tokyo. His career singles record now stands at 2-4
Czech Leos Friedl's big week in Vina del Mar continues. After reaching the singles quarterfinals, the 2005 doubles titles leader has advanced to the doubles final with countryman Frantisek Cermak.
After dropping just one game in their quarterfinal victory over Montanes/Portas, Cermak and Friedl survived a tough scrap against third seeds Martin Garcia and Luis Horna, eventually winning 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 (Match TB).
In 2005 the Czech duo won five team titles and Friedl won an ATP-best six titles for the season. In the final they will play second-seeded Argentine team Jose Acasuso (who is also bidding to reach the singles final) and Sebastian Prieto
wowww Fergie... great! hope they win the title too as you know Tomas Berdych isn't playing since AO that's why I'm interested by the results of the other Czech players. Leos Friedl seems a very good player in double
Czech Leos Friedl enjoyed a banner year on the ATP circuit in 2005 when he led the ATP circuit with a career-best six doubles titles. Five of those titles came with countryman Frantisek Cermak. The pair began the year strongly with back-to-back titles in Buenos Aires and Costa do Sauipe.
Friedl reached a career-high ranking of No. 14 in August; Cermak also hit a career-high of No. 18 during the year. Friedl won the 2001 Wimbledon mixed doubles championship with Daniela Hantuchova.
Cermak and Friedl reached the Vina del Mar final in early Febuary 2006. Friedl also reached the singles quarterfinal at the same event.

Is there a reason for this, or a source where the news came from?
They would have to be idiots to do it, unless they are older than I think/have families to look after...
August 12, 2007 - Indian Mahesh Bhupathi and Czech Pavel Vizner captured the doubles title at the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank with a 6-4, 6-4 win over fifth seeds Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe and Australian Paul Hanley Sunday afternoon.
The doubles final, played right before the singles final, lasted one hour and seven minutes, and the champions held their serve the entire match.
To advance to the final, Bhupathi and Vizner eliminated Fernando Gonzalez and Ivan Ljubicic, Martin Damm and Leonard Paes, as well as Bob and Mike Bryan in the semifinals.
The champions follow the footsteps of last year's champions in Toronto, the Bryan brothers, and Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett, crowned in Montreal in 2005. This is Bhupathi's fourth title in Canada, after 1997, 2003 and 2004.
Has anyone information on why Kveta/Martin gave a walkover to Sania/Mahesh?
