Re: Martin Lee ?

This is surprising because I was looking through the ranks and he was round about 300 and you need some sort of ranking points to get there so I thought he was playing's a shame to any player to have injuries.

Re: Martin Lee ?

Saw this in the paper today, it's a shame but as has been said - could be a good coach. Although I heard stories from people that on numerous occasions, during tours of Queen's, Martin Lee was spotted asleep on the gym equipment LOL

it's a shame he got injured so much, but i don't think he could have progressed higher than he did. he could well make a decent coach though and th lta are always on th lookout for more:

Re: Martin Lee ?

Its truly is a shame that such a promising career was blighted and halted by so many injuries.

I hope that he enjoys his future as a coach!

Re: Martin Lee ?

Martin has retired today....Good luck to him in the future.

British tennis player Martin Lee, 28, has announced his retirement from the sport. Lee reached 94 in the ATP world rankings in 2002, but was dogged by injuries later in his career.

"I've always felt that if I ever stopped playing tennis then it'd be time to stop," he said of the decision. "The injuries have taken their toll over the last six months. I haven't been enjoying playing as much as before."

Lee reached one ATP event final, in Newport in 2001, and played against Tim Henman and Pete Sampras on centre court at Wimbledon in 2001 and 2002 respectively.

"Reaching the final in Newport was definitely my most memorable week on tour," he said. "I was having real problems with my knee then so couldn't even practise.

"I was ranked about 130 going into that week and moved up to 103 afterwards which meant I gained acceptance into the US Open on the back of that.

"I beat James Blake in the semis but lost to Neville Godwin in the final."

This is not the end of the road for Lee in the world of tennis, however.

"I definitely want to go into coaching," he said. "I have a lot of experience from 12 years on tour.

"I'd like to help our better juniors and I feel I know what it takes because I've been there."

Re: Martin Lee ?

I think I did hear that he had been injured. He started 2005 ranked 868, but has now got back to 320 at the end of the year. I think he spent the entire year playing in British Challengers and Futures.

Re: Martin Lee ?

He's only played about three matches this year, according to that site

Re: Martin Lee ?

Good question. Hit a high of 94 a couple of years ago then the vertigo set in and this year he hasn't played outside the UK. Has he been injured?
