Our guy will play in Madrid. Hope he'll play some good matches and that the models won't have him too distracted.

I'm heartbroken. Do we have to resign ourselves to his being only a claycourt specialist? It's the fifth match in a row that he loses. I hate to imagine how he must be cursing himself right now!
Resignment isn't the solution, and certainly not an option of mine. I can't deny the facts. He's lost his 5th match in a row, yes. But I haven't seen that match. Maybe Chucho has really played a great match and there was nothing Gaston could do today. Maybe if they had played tomorrow, the outcome would have been totally different. Don't lose hope Vale. A tiebreak in the 1st set helps me believe it has been a great fight. :)

Because I'm very busy on my first day back at work I haven't been able to follow live scores or anything - but I've just caught up now and wanted to say sorry that Gaston lost. But - please don't lose hope- I have seen Chucho a fair bit this last 2 weeks (both in matches and in practice), and he is a good, fast court player with a good serve and has been hitting the ball cleanly - unless Gaston was on really top form it would have been hard to beat him on a hard court, and certainly no disgrace. Keep the faith guys :)

Aw... poor Gasti... this is the type of resignation I don't like... well done to Chucho.

Thanks for that word, Rosie. Given the surface I was prepared to be realistic about Gaudio's chances of going deep into the tournament this week, but was hopeful for a little more - but, I'm not really that familiar with Acasuso, so this is good to know on him and for the match today.

Vale I think we all know he doesnt thrive on other surfaces as he does on clay so um, yes of course for each match he lost on HC we can find some objective reasons why he lost it, probably even his Baker match, but they'll be secondary. I still believe he's talented enough to do better on fast courts with his game but thats not enough in reality.

Well congrats to Chucho, he was good enough to do the business when it counted and is someone who should be doing better than he actually is.

Next point well Gaston isn't in great form and if he doesn't make it to Shanghai, it's his fault and his fault only. That's the thing he knows what exactly is needed and hasn't been able to score well in the events that matter hence his position where he is, it's easy to see.

Sure, he doesn't like playing on these surfaces, but he has to adapt and at the same time, he lacks self-belief when he is on clay and how is that not going to manifest itself on other surfaces he is less comfortable on.

Btw - Gaston and Mariano Puerta went on to lose their doubles match to Ferrer/Verdasco last night  The score was 3-6, 2-6. Not totally surprising I guess.

For those interested here is a small recap on the match.

Gaudio-Acasuso I had a friend on that court and I was calling him to give me his impressions. He said first set was pretty even. Gaudio was the better player from baseline, Acasuso was again playing 100 m behind baseline, but he served well and attacked several times the net with not too much success as he missed some easy volleys. A couple of funny things Gastón said:

"¡Si querés hablar por teléfono salite fuera!" "If you want to talk by phone, go out!" when a phone bell rang when Gaudio was about to serve. As always, some blah blah with himself and coach and some complaints to the line refs and umpire. 2nd set, looks like Gastón was mentally out and was broken 3 times.

i thought that Gaston's mentally has decided the match.....
