Bernard begins his season in 2 days at the Hopman Cup. He will play singles matches against Tommy Haas (12/29), Novak Djokovic (1/2), Andreas Seppi (1/3) and mixed doubles with Ashleigh Barty.
Next will be the Sydney tournament before the Australian Open. After that, we know so far that he will go to Europe to play Rotterdam.
His situation is pretty much messed up from every angle both personally and professionally. In tennis there's the issues with his dad that everyone knows about, but even when his dad is not around Bernard still acts the same. Which is why I think everyone (including myself in the past) saying how if he got rid of his dad then all of a sudden things would be better is wrong. Just look at the above mentioned instances to see the same behavior despite his dad not being around. Then away from tennis the people he hangs out with just further enable the behavior. It's really like he has no chance when you see everything he's surrounded by... Nothing that has happened in the past has changed him whatsoever.
bernie will miss his dad around somehow too. i know some people struggle to understand that, but he really loves his dad, even when we all think he is acting as a fool or something. somehow he needs his dad next to him, too
Perhaps, but the stories from earlier this year certainly raise questions about their relationship. My point was more of how I don't see a coach, if one ever is brought in, would all of a sudden fix Bernard's problems as many seem to suggest after seeing that he behaves the same way when John isn't around. And even worse is that the people (physio, hitting partner, etc) supposed to help his tennis are actually hurting him by going out and doing whatever else during the season. The lack of professionalism is astounding...
dont be so hard with him, im sure he is feeling pretty bad atm. its not as easy to find the solution, maybe on the paper it is, but in reality, its not. give him time, and give him a break. he is an amazing player
This is very ordinary. Clearly trying to play thru the bad form is not working so some time out will hopefully help. Tomic has stepped up at the events you know mean more to him (Sydney, Aus Open, Wimbledon, Davis Cup) however every single other event he has played shit. So that tells me it is a motivation and concentration thing. Take some time out mate and start fresh in Hopman Cup in January.
Just regarding appearance fee if that was the case, Pat Rafter used to always give back his appearance fee if he thought he did not perform well.. just a fun fact.
Meanwhile, Tomic seems further from revealing his own coaching intentions than previously indicated.
Tomic, 21, told Fairfax Media in Shanghai last month that a coaching appointment from among two candidates was expected within weeks. His father John's 12-month tournament ban extends until May.
''There's nothing that I know that looks like changing before January,'' said Tennis Australia's head of professional tennis, Todd Woodbridge.
i really think press is trying to kill him as usual, and even the "fans" are believing them. he doesnt go out that much at all, really
