8 RGs the best record ever

Nadal = clay GOAT

People saying Borg faced superior competition
All you had to do back then was to stay back at the baseline and let the other mug come in while you make the pass. Nadal would have dropped 8 games to win 8 RGs back then. And not to mention the higher GS count because of more tournaments on the real tennis surface

Your Nadal obsession is becoming a diagnose...

Nadal won more French titles, more clay titles and more clay matches. Period.
And please tell me more about that great clay court players defeated by Borg. Post peak Nastase? Or young yet undeveloped Lendl? C'mon.

For you and for all those who permanently repeat such absurd cliche about "weak era" stuff I found some article in Deuce magazine. Allow me to quote the part of it:

"Yet another factor is that Nadal is playing in the most clay-skilled era in tennis history. Great as Borg was on clay, he was a true revolutionary, the first player ever to so heavily whip the ball with topspin on both sides - in large part the prototype of contemporary tennis. Borg presided over clay in an era when many of his peers had one-handed slice backhands and were hardly able to match his proficiency or consistency from the baseline.

Ditto, but to a lesser degree, for Wilander and Lendl. Playing styles then were still varied. Many net rushers tried to ply their skills on clay, which from time to time made it easier for skilled baseliners such as Wilander and Lendl to earn clay court victories. But Nadal is playing in a time when his brand of grinding baseline play is the model on just about all surfaces. In other words, he faces versions of himself - albeit of lesser skill - in just about every round he plays."

So,you are implying that borg would have achieved more if he had continued his career.

I won't disagree with that, but you cannot go forward with assumptions. You can only consider what he has achieved and as far as achievements are considered Nadal is by far the best Clay courter.

He is in fact by far the best player on any single surface.

Nadal's clay records are great, but Borg is still the number 1 by far. I think a lot of people only started watching tennis quite recently and forget that unlike Nadal, he actually faced really great clay court players. He also retired at a ridiculously young age.

I thought writing "Using the Women as comparison" would make things quite clear. Obviously not.

Most slams in open era: Steffi Graf, 22; in any era Margaret Court, 24.
Most QFs in a row in any era: Roger Federer, 36.

It's the same with Roger: his most prestigious record is probably 17 GS, but I'm 100% sure that his 36 straight GS QF streak will be the last to be broken, if ever.

Re: The most untouchable Nadal`s record on clay

I'm probably as far as it gets from a Nadal fan. I hate his game antics, I hate his personality on court, I hate his game, I pretty much hate everything there is to hate about him. But I have a whole lot of respect for him. He is, like it or not, custom made for clay, you can't improve on anything he does on clay and saying he has these #s on clay just cause it's a weak clay era is just ridiculous.

No matter how weak the opposition, you need to be a mental giant to hold these kinds of #s. Coming to court day in day out and never dropping your level like he does is just ridiculous. No one has ever done anything like that on a specific surface.

His L against Zeballos is a great example. He came in there and played against someone giving the match of his life. Zeballos was absolutely amazing in that match doing everything so well I was drooling all over my couch. And it still required an almost inhuman effort from him to beat Nadal on a 70% day. If Nadal was a bit more into it I'm sure he would've still won it, and seeing how Zeballos played that day that's not a simple statement, it just comes to show just how good this guy is on clay.

As for the thread were here for, at the moment 81 in a row is probably the most untouchable, then again, I'm sure the RG count is not over so we'll have to go back to this in a couple of years

Re: The most untouchable Nadal`s record on clay

5-0 against the greatest player ever lived at RG.

So why would he need to worry about anybody else? He is also 5-0 against Nole at RG. Nole is also one of the greatest ever to play the game.

Just bring him the greatest players ever to play the game and he beats them playing with the wrong hand at RG.

Re: The most untouchable Nadal`s record on clay

81 in a row on clay is more "untouchable" than 8 RGs I think. 8 titles may be more impressive.

Re: The most untouchable Nadal`s record on clay

Nadal's eight RG titles is mind-fuckingly good.

As a previous poster said (I am paraphrasing) it's "A Field in England" level of head mess that he could quite realistically make it nine or ten in a few years.
