Sorry for the somewhat premature thread but, as a Canberra born, I'm excited about Kyrgios.
Born: 27 Apr 1995
Birth place: Canberra, Australia
Plays: Right Handed (Double Handed Backhand)
Probably his biggest achievement to date came in doubles. He won (boys) Roland Garros and Wimbledon with Andrew Harris this year. His singles results have been coming along too, he recently won Canada (Grade 1) and made the quarters of Wimbledon and the US Open. Men's tour experience and results have been limited, but his showings have been respectable.
Already top 5 in juniors, he'll be one of the favourites for this year's u18 national championships and next year's junior Australian Open.
13-11 in the 3rd set breaker. What a great performance from Nick.
Well done son. Awesome. That is using your break of getting the Wild Card to the Max.
Winning your first Grand Slam match, on a surface you've barely played on, as a wild card, versus someone ranked over 200 spots above you, in straight sets but winning less points, is... well... nice.
I am imagining this means a couple of records for Nick. I sincerely doubt many others have - at any point in their careers - saved more set points pr ATP match played. Not to mention, 3 TBs pr match won is sort of difficult to top
i was so nervous during that final tiebreak, i can't imagine how Nick was feeling especially after seeing a few match points go by! i can't believe he won he must have saved at least 10 set points throughout the match. massive effort!!
Challenger win, 1/4, 1/2, Final and Title
MD ATP tournament match played, Grand Slam match played and with win in both
To make Top 500/400/300/ and very soon Top 200
Thanks for the stats TennisOnWood. It's been a while since someone as young as Kyrgios has won a Roland Garros match. I'm thinking Djokovic in 2005 who was a month younger.
No recipricol WC at Wimbledon. But the Wimbledon officials are not averse to giving WC's to whom they please, and a great perormance from Nick may get their attention. Not sure if Nick made the Qualies cut-off for Wimbie, which is ridiculously low at the moment, around 230 but should ease up closer to the tourny.
I love this guy. Seems quite humble and mature in front of the cameras, too, which is nothing but beneficial in the big leagues of tennis. Apparently he's been using the secondary locker rooms so he doesn't come across Federer or Nadal and become overwhelmed at the tournament - smart move.
The match is on court 7, and is going to be streamed.
