The only sort of advantage Canada has here is that it's at home, it's possible Murray might not show up since it's R1 in Canada though, it's basically all they can hope for.
Doubt Murray will play next year. He's given everything to Davis Cup for two years and has other objectives now. Unfortunately Milos likely wont play either, because that's what he does now

They have Murray, they have a #2 that's probably better than our #2, and they have a really formidable doubles team. Even is Raonic plays you're going to have to win 2 toss up matches at best to win. Which is more than you'd have to win against Anyone except France, and Maybe Serbia or Croatia(and those 2 are also in our half with Spain, damn the top half is much easier)

Re: Davis Cup

Canada draws the Brits. Not too bad. Win the the other 3 matches if you can't beat Murray in singles. Looks like we will play at home.

Just to expand on this: Argentina, France, Belgium and Serbia would all be home ties. Croatia, GB, Czech Republic and Switzerland would all be decided by lot.
Home ties are nice, but we know how well Argentina just did vs. GB away indoors, France too I'm sure will be very difficult, If Serbia send a decent team will be hard, Croatia, Czech Rep. and Britain are all good on indoor hard, so it's not like having a home tie will be much, if any of an advantage, the only thing could be to see big stars in Canada, so IMO Switzerland assuming Stan and Fed don't play, Belgium, a non Nole led Serbia, maybe Croatia if Milos can beat Cilic, but Coric could pick up the slack, a bit off Argentina could be the only chances for a win, maybe Czech Rep.

Re: Davis Cup

Someone should explain changeovers to the ushers at Halifax's Scotiabank Centre. They kept letting people in after even games. Nevertheless, it's a great venue.

The second set of Dancevic's match was a real heartbreaker, but he reacted as you would hope a veteran would. He played some sharp tennis in both his matches, but I find his game has lost a lot of its bite. Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the top 200, if perhaps only briefly. Dancevic is now tied with Nestor for the second most Davis Cup single wins for a Canadian, second to Lareau. Does anyone remember the 90's, when Nestor beat Edberg, Rios and Kuerten? I do. (Actually, his last win was in 2003)

Pospisil gave us nothing to cheer for in the middle sets of his match. The rest of the time, he was way better than Jarry. Jarry is about 6'5" and has a very big serve. The rest of the Chileans looked as though they had never seen a hardcourt, which is not far from the truth.

I had always suspected that Shamasdin was simply a decent player who took advantage of the vagaries of the no-ad scoring system to achieve an inflated ranking. He played a great match on Saturday, with a lot of aces and consistently good returns. Thank you for proving me wrong, Adil. I still don't know what went wrong last year against Belgium, though the Belgians just beat Soares and Melo.

When I saw Shapovalov goofing around a half hour before the Sunday start time, I thought he might not be playing. It turns out he was quite fired up. I still don't know how he ever expects to return first serves with a one-handed topspin backhand, but time will tell.

The tie was dedicated to Bruno Agostinelli and some other guy (Morhart?) I had never heard of. I didn't know (or perhaps I did and forgot) Bruno had died earlier this year of a motorcycle accident. I'll never forget his heroics in 2009, which kept Canada from dropping down to Group II. It was in 2011 that Canada rose to the World Group. It now has the seven longest active streak in the World Group.

Nice for it to go 3-0 and not a lot of stress. Good job boys.

Re: Davis Cup

3-0, tie over, well done, yet expected, now it's time to get a good WG draw so they don't have to play this again next year.

I didn't see any either. Was following the score on until I had to leave work, Dancevic was up a break in the 2nd and serving it out when he was broken, broke back, then broken again when serving for the second set again. Then was up 5-1 in the breaker only to lose 7-5. After that though he seemed to wake up as he took the 3rd set 6-1 and finished the 4th set 6-4.

Have no idea how Vasek's match went other than it was also 4 sets.

Yeah, they went with Dancy, but if he loses Shapovalov may get a crack.
