Djokovic now has 6 slams. 4 AOs, 1 Wimbledon and 1 US Open.
Becker has 6 slams. 2 AOs, 3 Wimbledon and 1 US Open.
Edberg has 6 slams. 2 AOs, 2 Wimbledon and 2 US Open.
Djokovic has 2 YEC, Becker 3 YEC and Edberg 1 YEC.
Djokovic has 11 TMS, Becker 11 too and Edberg 5 (albeit I'm counting GP series that became Masters in 1990)
Djokovic has 65 weeks at #1, Becker 12 weeks and Edberg 72 weeks.
Ivanisevic and Krajicek were as good technically as a Del Potro, yet, Topspindoctor dont realize Del Potro was a top 5 in this era while krajicek only entered top 5 in 1999.
No, they were all serve. I have watched Ivanisevic play, he had horrendous ground game. Not top 50 level. Krajicek, same thing, both made a career of serving people off court in an era where courts played like ice rink.
The early 90s were still decent. The late 90s were the low point, with players like Thomas Muster, Marcelo Rios, Carlos Moya advancing to world #1. Sampras and Agassi were good when they were good, but Sampras gradually turned into a Wimbledon-only phenomenon and Agassi took long breaks between his peaks. They didn't have that 'these guys are the ones to beat, at every tournamen't status that, say, Connors, Borg, McEnroe had in their day, or Federer and Nadal had later.
Mens'' tennis came gradually back in the early 2000s with Safin, Kuerten, Hewitt. And then came Federer.
Today we're at the end of a golden age, Federer is old, Nadal's body is giving out, and even Djokovic and Murray are beyond a tennis player's best years. From here things can only go down.
hey mods time to ban this double account it is beyond evident do your jobs like you can ....................Fishnet should be banned for using double account and trolling like a mug again
Fishnet is not Big John. I suspect he might be another permabanned MTF user from even before I joined (read a few of his posts in bumped threads), but I'm not sure so I'll keep my suspicions to myself for now and give him the benefit of the doubt. He's 100% not Big John though.
you know why it feels that way? It's called nostalgia . i.e. Borg is still the greatest to me and always will be, although Fed is the GOAT. emotions and memories vs. logic, If you know what I mean.
oh, yes way ... check out their overall accomplishments, consistency, number of titles etc. Ask Boris and he'll tell you the same thing . the bottom line is Djokovic is in his prime and capable of winning many more slams.
The joker is a much better player than either of those greats and if he isn't ahead of them he soon will be. As a long time fan who isn't particularly fond of Novak, that's my opinion. Djokovic's movement and consistent stroke production are both superior. If Djokovic had been able to solve his health issues earlier the relative Federer, Nadal and Djokovic positions would be so much closer.
Becker was a wayyyy more powerful hitter, better serve, better at net, etc/etc. you can say all you want about thinking Djokovic is a better package but he would have been screwed had he played late 80s or in the 90s, as would Becker in today's game, so I think unless Novak gets really noticable better achievements than it would be unfair to say he has surpassed Becker or Edberg. just too close to call right now
Djokovic is almost 26 now and by this age he has 6 grand slams. Boris had 5 at this age, but he was facing the rise of Sampras and Agassi.
I dont see Djokovic facing someone in the future who will win 14 Grand Slams like Sampras or 9 like Agassi.
Becker had to face Sampras and Agassi in the future, so he only won one more grand slam.
Edberg at the age of 25 also had 5 grand Slams.
Both Edberg and Becker were born in 1966/1967 so in 1991 they alread had won their grand slams facing one each other + Lendl and Wilander, but unfortunately had to face youngster Sampras and Agassi.
Djokovic can see only himself in the future plus facing Murray and decadent Nadal.
Of course Djokovic is a better overall player with better movement and strokes than Becker and Edberg but his volleys are worse than theirs.
This means Djokovic doesnt have a doubles career, whilst Becker and Edberg has a better doubles career than Djokovic (Edberg won two grand slams, while Becker was number 6 in Doubles).
So for me, even if Djokovic wins 10 grand slams in total he might have surpassed those players in numbers, but in terms of plaing style and what he brings to tennis he will be more like a singles specialist with a bigger time of playing on high level than surpassing those players in terms of legend.
But of course Djokovic is a terrific tennis player and comparing them is a bit unfair.
Numbers aside he has passed both of them and his game is more complete. Novak will end up with a Roland Garros title, and would have a few other than his playing Rafa there 4 times. They are both better than him on grass, obviously. Hardcourts all of them were great, but Novak is the best of the 3 on a outdoor hardcourt.
He is much better on clay than either, ever were. You ever watch Becker move around on a clay court? He is close to them on grass, but not as good. Is the better hardcourt player.
Serbia has more legends in their sports than Sweden and Germany put together but I have no doubts that in Germany or Sweden their players are more popular........
and who's double account are you troll?I mean you started posting again 3 days ago so tell me about this Djokovic hate mission you're on?

correction: he might have passed in Serbia, poor country that always suffered and now has an icon, but in Sweden, Germany, you know, those mighty places, Becker and Edberg are still legends as big as Djokovics.
Its the same as Kuerten in Brazil, legendary because he won 3 Roland Garros, even if he didnt face a Nadal or a Borg. Everyone was happy, sambaed but now...meh...only the best fans like Fishnet stay with their senses on.

Edberg and Becker were also great players. Two legends. I am not saying that he surpassed them already. But he certainly mached them.
Djokovic will probably stay longer at nr. 1 then both of them.
What really would boost Djokovic is a Roland Garros crown. Because he has than won the career grand slam. Than he is well heading in the direction of players like Nadal or Agassi.
In terms of tennis ability I think he is already on the same class as Agassi. But he is statistically not yet in the same class. Because Agassi won Roland Garros and olympic gold.
Nadal is a bit further away than Agassi, because he won mopre slams. But Djokovic does not need to win as much slams as Nadal to be in the same class. Nadal never won the YEC by example. And his performacnes outside clay courts were very good but not exceptional. Djokovic could also surpass Nadals nr. 1 weeks count.
