Long interview with Vasek on the Athletic (not sure if its behind a paywall)

Here's the part about last year

Quote:
9. Youíve said 2016 was a bit of a frustrating year. Your ranking dropped out of the top-100 for the first time in a while. How do you assess how the start of your 2017 season has gone?
VP: Itís back on track. I think that would be the best way to put it. Obviously the ranking is going to take a little bit of time to get back up there. Itís always tough to do it, but I think now the process is set in stone again. Iím excited about what Iím doing. I have a new team around me. Iím motivated back on the court training.

Last year was a very complicated year. It wasnít just Ďoh I had a bad year.í There were a lot of things that were going on that distracted me. Personal, professional, you name it. It was a lot of things. And that was one of the reasons why I think, in my opinion, I dropped out cause you go through dry spells every year. Even for the four years I was ranked up there, I had a dry spell every year. But it was always much more simple. You could pinpoint it and say itís this one thing and you fix it. But last year I just felt like it was too many things Ė too many distractions. But now I would say, 2017 Ė itís the revival. Iím hoping. Now I feel like everything is back to where it should be and Iím working hard and enjoying the process, thatís the main thing.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Has WD from Tempe, no surprise.

Too bad he lost the Final due to injury.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

In retrospect now the lazy backhands and poor movement make more sense. I'm sure he was nervous too, but obviously limited. Too bad.

Up to #118 and number #2 Canadian again. Though I can't imagine he's going to be playing Tempe CH this week now. Probably best to take at least a week off and come back.

Will take about 70 more points to be in the running for direct entry to the GS MD

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Ouch, the back again.
Hope it isn't too bad. Just pull out of Tempe and get back at Delray or whatever.

Too bad he couldn't finish with the win, but it was far better than I expected last week.

Loosie That sucks to hear he was having back issues again. Too bad he couldn't take the title here.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Well, he didn't give up after the MTO, but he lost both service games.

Tuggy Body lets him down again unfortunately.
