Re: Why is it Fedal and not Naderer?

I suppose the ring.
Naderer sounds like nada...i.e. nothing, zilch.

Also Fedal is easily expanded to give rise to Fedalovic or Fedalovicray

Re: Why is it Fedal and not Naderer?

Fedal sounds like a word and looks like medal, pedal, etc.

Naderer is gibberish.

I would have thought it was quite obvious.

Rafole is probably as usable as Djokal.

Re: Tournaments: Which are Exhibitions; Which are Not?

On MTF I learned that everything barring Slams is an exho. Including Olympics, WTF, Davis Cup etc...

Are you asking in the context of forum moderation or in general? Because if it's the former, the staff will just have to make an arbitrary decision where to draw the line. Otherwise, I really don't see why it's important how we call them. Do we absolutely have to divide all tournaments into two mutually exclusive groups? Why can't an event be partially competition, partially exhibition?
There are many different events. Some matter more than others. In some the outcome is irrelevant, in others it's not. To complicate the matters even further, different players treat the same events differently. There's no clear definition and there's no need to have one. I mean... very few things in life are black and white. So who cares?

Fedull sounds best because of this "dull" at the end

Re: Tournaments: Which are Exhibitions; Which are Not?

@philosophicalarf That is the question -- how does a result matter? Do Futures and Challengers not matter, as they are not counted in the ATP H2H? If a player who has many optional tournaments and has a big points floor, will his early loss means the tournament does not matter because he does not gain any points? What about the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of sport in general (although not tennis specifically), yet does not give prize money, does it matter?

Re: Tournaments: Which are Exhibitions; Which are Not?

Was an easier answer when DC/Olympics gave points, but they stopped doing that last year (or year before?).

Hopman is clearly an exho, even though it's an ITF event.

Meanwhile, the mubababababdalwhatever cup in Abu Dhabi is also an exho, but the players turn up and play hard - because there's a prize for winning. At the end of the day that's what matters: in exhos the result doesn't matter, in competitive events it does.
