of course he will...
Nadull is done and dusted winning any slams and Serbian Slayer is only getting stronger with each passing day. He will probably finish with 13-14 slams in total, majority of them being on hardcourts of course
He surely is capable of surpassing Rafa's slams if the number stays at 11.
On the other hand if rafa gets his tally to 13-14 then it would be nearly impossible for Novak to catch up.People do seem to underestimate rafa because of the recent injury but i don't think he's done winning slams.
He's got enough time to build some rhythm going into the FO 2013 and i believe he's still the favourite to win this year's FO.
can't really see him surpassing rafa atm. also depends a LOT on whether rafa will be able to add to his pile.
djoko has about 2 more yrs to rack up slams realistically, everything after turning 28 will be a bonus. so if he has two very good years he will have a shot at 10. and that is a very generous scenario.
there will be no competition around besides murray and del potro. everyone else will be old. all the same players from 5-10 years ago but older and the youngsters are no good.
IMO he can, but it's not going to be easy. Plus Nadal is not done yet, if he wins another 1-2 slams, then it would be almost impossible for the Djoker to surpass him.
Anyway, you never know what will happen in 1 or 2 years from now. If there are still no younger players who can challenge him, then he can win 2 slams per year for another 2-3 years, but he can decline as well, and not win more than 1 slam from now. He can also start to lose the close matches like the ones vs. Tsonga, or Wawrinka, and go slamless for more than a year. People forget that he was few points away from defeat in his last 3 slam wins.
People are thinking slams grow on trees. Novak has only got 6 slams in 7/8 years on tour. At the moment, even if Nadal wins no slams, he will have to double his slam tally to surpass Nadal. Not an as easy a feat many are making it out to be.
Oh come on, you know you need some years to grow and mature before raking up slams, he's playing at his peak now and has won 5 slams in two years. But he's just 25. What makes you think he won't win many more slams in the next 3-4 years?
Plus it's not like the other players in the Top 15 are younger than him, quite the contrary.
At the moment Djokovic seems like the favorite for the AO and USO when he is fit, and have a chance to win one of the other two. Personally I expect him two win around 2 slams on average a year with this form. About 6-9 more to pass Nadal? So that is roughly 4 years at his current form and the form of the current competition.
But fitness and also confidence can drop anytime, Djokovic relies heavily on both. His serve and forehand(two most important shots in tennis) are decent for top10 level but he can't really make the difference with these shots. Other top10 members will come in the next 4 years with a better serve and/or a better fh than Djokovic and Djokovic must be faster than them also when he is 29 if he is to pass Nadal in my opinion.
Federer (and Nadal on clay) had in their prime super movement but also the best shots, so at that time they looked more dominant than Djokovic now. I think they were able to win a couple of slams when they were not at their peak fitness due to their better shots when their movement was all of a sudden not that superior . So for them it was fitnesswise easier to be in contention for slams so many years.
I don't expect Djokovic to get more slams when he leaves the top3. And keeping his fitness at this level for another 4 years will be hard. He has been sliding the hardcourts at top level since 2007... But on the other hand when I saw him doing that in 2007 I thought he would go the hewitt road with his fitness. The guy must have the perfect body to move around a tennis court.
Nadal will be back winning slams sooner than the OP thinks. He won 3 straight slams the year before Novak did so I don't think we can count him out till we see him back out there.
Unfortunately for Novak his favored surface is also the favored surface of the elite players . So he is vulnerable to the random upset.
Nadull had little completion on clay .
Too premature, Federer lost a close 5 set match against a tough player in the first major of the year and suddenly he is doing being a threat to Murray and Djokovic? Did we not have this same discussion last year? or two years ago when he was supposedly done winning majors.
Nadal is not finished either, he will do fine during the clay court season. Who is to say that some youngster will not improve greatly in the next year.
Surprise defeats happen even though they are more rare lately. Delpo got on fire and crushed Nadal at the USO and then beat Federer at one of his favorite major's, nobody saw that coming. The same is the cards for Djokovic, can't win everything.
Pretty much they were all wrong, because surpassing Federer's 17 had not even been alluded to, either by Djokovic (6 slams at the time) or Nadal (11 slams).
