Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

Sometimes for fun. I have a serve motion like Cilic, a grunt like Sharapova, backhand like dudi sela and a forehand similiar to Ilhan.

Not a match just practice. Was pretty rusty that day. Footwork is pretty terrible but I like my FH and I can hit BH well sometimes. I love to slice the ball as well (not shown much here).

I'm a claymug and pusher, have a Stanesk 1OHBH, a wonderful forehand, but an AWOL serve.

In other words: I'm the 1.85m-version of Diego Schwartzman.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

+ Good court coverage
+ Good backhand both topspin and slice

* Average to above average volleys and overheads
* Average forehand
* Okay first serve
* Okay feel (lob, drop shots)
* Mentally neutral: I am very relaxed when I play which can be good or bad

- Will rush the net with Roddickian approaches
- Poor shot selection and tactics overall
- Second serve is shit due to lack of pace

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I have super-aggresive backhand, can use a slice and dropshot as well, so that is my weapon.
Serve is too weak now (3 months off the court), fine forehand, atrocius volley, good movement, and lack off stamina, but hey, it is raining now in Craiova, and searching for hitting partner and partner for playing matches.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I'm a baseline ballbasher, that's why I admire players with variety. I'm working on adding variety to my game. Serve isn't the greatest. 2HBH, I'm not talented or stable enough for a onehander. Favourite surface: Indoor carpet. Don't like clay a lot because of the bad bounces.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

Also a 4.5 player I think.

My backhand 1hbh is more powerful than my forehand but it is also much less reliable. On a good day I can hit with power off this wing but I also need more time to prepare it. On a bad day it's a tragic shot.
I also have a good slice from this wing

My forehand is not very powerful but It's a shot with good variety. I can hit flat, I can hit with heavy spin, I can slice and I often switch between eastern and semi western (I use semi western on slower conditions, or on longer matches, when it gets physical)

Beucase of some lack of power I compensate with good defense, I can run fast and return lots of balls.

My net game is bad but I'm improving.

My first serve is good but not great

My second serve is below good but I'm improving.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

Last 5,6 months have been a nightmare for me, I just can't accept the fact that I have to stay away from tennis. Have some major issues with the herniated disc, each time i think i might be doing fine, after a minimum physical effort it starts hurting badly again. Now after months of inactivity my muscles are completely atrophied.

Using those NTRP scales, i'd probably be something like a 5.0. My serve, slices and volleys are certainly above that level, but sluggish movement can get easily exposed.

I'm NTRP 4.5 player. Great forehand, one handed backhand, powder puff serves though. Super fast can track down lots of shots.

Tennis elbow will happen to anyone over 35 or 40, regardless of technique.
It depends on how much and how often you actually play.
Eg I have had it by playing on week-ends, and then combining it with squash as well - a recipe for disaster.

Go for it!

Just curious, how did you get into tennis if you never played it?

Never too late, get a few private individual lessons and then some weeknight hit and giggle social tennis.
Many guys at my local club never played as Juniors, ie took it up in their late 20s or 30s etc.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I play regularly. 2-3 times per week. I am 4.0 ballbashing baseliner

Lefty with 1HBH.

Use Prostaff 90 even though I am not a Fed fanboy. Just love that racquet.
