Now that Federer has finally made it into the 3rd round what do the supreme tennis analysts of MTF think of this encounter? Serious responses only please...
The Great One to annihilate this feeble old man. Tomic announced himself with an impressive victory over Brands and with crowd support he will send the Nose back to Switzerland to change his kids diapers.
Probably because Fed was good at exposing his bad movement last year. Still, I feel he has made strides in that department. If that will be enough remains to be seen.
Fed is also very smart in terms of reading the play, and seemingly isn't bothered that much by junkballing/constant changes of pace. Those are Tomic's biggest strengths.
I think Tomic will probably hold a respectable number of service games, but will struggle to get a look-in at breaking Fed. So we will probably have 3 or possibly 4 close sets without the ultimate result ever being in serious doubt.
Federer should not be bothered by Bernerd's playing style. But the kid might take a set here - I mean, if the GOAT kindly allows him to do it of course
Federer won't lose to anyone who plays "effortless" tennis like him. Maybe he'll be generous and let the Aussie crowd to have something to cheer on by gifting a close set but will slay Tomic easily overall.
I'm confident for Roger because he looks very fit.
But as this kind of fundamental elements is hardly ever mentioned in these threads, I just wanted to point that tomorrow will be a very cool day, completely different from the 39 degrees celsius 2 days ago : it will be 19 degrees celsius and 18 km/h wind when they start.
Then it will be much slower and there will probably be a lot of rallies.
Not sure who it favours but I think it's important because temperatures have a huge impact on the speed of the game in Australia and both players will have to adapt (it will also be an easier day session with 22 celsius maximum)
I admit I haven't seen Tomic's matches. From what I've read he is serving very well and he's not been broken for a few matches.
I don't know what type of game he played to beat Djokovic but all the "weird shots" won't affect Roger. Roger knows very well how to deal with vareid play. Since Tomic doesn't have much power in his shots and his FH is quite weak I think Roger will take it in 3.
Tomic on Roger Federer: Will be interesting if we meet
Bernard Tomic, who has reached his first ATP final in Sydney, is in Roger Federer’s section of the Australian Open draw. Should the 20-year-old and Federer both reach the third round of the Australian Open, they will meet. Federer beat Tomic in the fourth round of Melbourne last year, and also in Cincinnati.
“That third round meet is huge, but the tennis I’ve been playing now, if I can win tomorrow, it’s different approaching the Australian Open,” Tomic said. “It’s different, especially beating the No. 1 in the world [Novak Djokovic] last week and coming in so confident. If I can get that one more match under my belt and have eight matches, it’s a different feeling. I’ll give myself the best chance to play well in the early rounds. If I get to Roger, it’s going to be an interesting match."

I will gladly watch this punk get destroyed by the king of tennis. I can't wait to see it, it'll be beautiful to watch this little twerp's words get spat back at him in the form of a humiliating loss
