He has just reconnected with his coach from juniors, Olivier Delaitre (since Valencia) - I hope this will start to help him get healthy because he is so talented. It is a terrible shame for him to be injured so much.

I start to think that most French coaches are really useless. So good that there is one French player who looked abroad.

What a terrible day for most of the French players in Bercy.

Disaster! Apparently Gael has pulled out of Paris-Bercy with a wrist injury.

From French journalist, Carole Bouchard, on twitter:

Carole Bouchard ‏@carole_bouchard 13m
Monfils out of Bercy. Injured his left wrist on a fall during a training with Tursunov. Tried to play the double then had exams. Can't play.

Re: Gael's Hardcourt season

Gael looked tired/ out of sorts/ maybe injured - he had the trainer on at the end of the 1st set, massaging his right thigh. He was arguing like mad again with Carlos Bernardes during play in the 2nd set, then stood arguing throughout a whole change of ends. I kept losing my (German commentary!) feed so not totally sure what it was about, but I guess it was maybe over how much time he took between points, like last week, or maybe racquet abuse - as Gael kept bouncing his racquet frame off the ground and a few times it got away from him.

He played quite defensively overall and the tie break was horrible - 7-0. He just never really looked 100% in the match, whatever the reason. But credit to J. Pospisil - he played aggressively, has really big ground-strokes, and hit a lot of winners.
