Very good, but very worrying article about the reduction of challengers for 2013.
Almost a quarter less in the first months of 2013 than in 2012. Very, very bad news...
and I pulled you up where you're wrong because of the ignorant way you treated the opinions of others with complete disdain when they have more knowledge on the subject than you do.
This may veer off topic a bit, but I am curious what everyone thinks about TOO MUCH TENNIS.
In other words, with the way the game is played today, it's brutal as compared to the past. Players are constantly sick, fatigued or injured, which obviously reduces the quality of tennis. Now, even most of the great matches at the top levels are played with some sort of physical issue in the background with at least one of the players.
Maybe at the lower levels physical fitness isn't such a concern for organizers and fans. But wouldn't less Tennis = Higher Quality Tennis?
I know. This doesn't adress nor solve the issue of money and players making a living outside the top 50. Obviously higher prize payouts and more perks would solve a lot of this. But I understand it's a lot more complicated than this. Just like reducing or moving tournaments around.
One last thought - WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THOSE EARLY BRAZILIAN FUTURES?? I questioned some in the industry early in 2012 and was told lack of sponsorship of course. But then Florianopolis became a WTA event and Sao Paulo now holds season ending Challenger Chps. Maybe just a re prioritizing by Brazil?

I read a doctor having worked in Roland-Garros for long : he thought that what you say is the description of the tennis from the past, when players actually did keep on playing when injured or having some problems, but now players stopped playing earlier when they had problems. Besides, players are more closely followed by doctors. And I also think that PEDs do help like in football where players play so much more often and better than in the past ...

Not sure what this tells us, but just thought it was interesting how many futures were added in 11,12. And now a dip early this year.
strange cause I didn't read anything about this cancellation while there were several articles about the Napoli CH being cancelled on italian websites.
