It was a masterstroke indeed. I could not believe whiners here complaining about that too.

I'm not the biggest Game of Thrones fan and I certainty didn't think this episode deserves the 10/10 score from imdb, but this season was definitely a return to form for the series after the disappointment that was Season 5. I dislike Cersei but I certainly relished in rooting for her (for once ) in this episode. Season 7 will definitely embark on uncharted territory where the creative source is broken from its shackles from the source material. I'm excited for that because that could certainly help the writers and directors push the series into a bold, exciting direction.

Here is my Top 10 personal favourite Game of Thrones episodes so far:

1. The Rains of Castamere
2. The Old Gods and The New
3. The Watchers on the Wall
4. Blackwater
5. Hardhome
6. Battle of the Bastards
7. The Door
8. Baelor
9. Fire and Blood
10. Kiss By Fire

Honourable Mention (aka 11th favourite): The Lion and the Rose

It's no secret from this list, that my favourites are the "payoff" episodes rather than the "character/story building setups".

What was great about GoT? What was great and differentiated it from other generic fantasy was that GRRM introduced a literary quality to his work; he made his work philosophical; made his characters uncertain of their existence in a fantastical world where outcome is always certain and that is what got him fans who couldn't care less about fantasy as a genre of fiction, but care about rich characters and their existential crisis. I know philosophy students who loved GoT for this effin' reason, and they disdain popular fantasy. What the latest season of this TV show has offered us is a bunch of tropes - characters thin as butter paper (Euron FI ), pacing from plot point after plot point like they're still pitching the story to producers, instead of organically etched characters we care about. No joy of journey and struggle at all like first 3 seasons. And relying singularly on Michael Sapochnik's obvious talents as a director to help them out of the ditch.

Right now it's catering to pubescent fanboys like you, and that worries me a lot. FFS, Martin just put Jon against Dany and make only one of them prevail so that at least I get to see chico in ruins.
LOL. A guy who proved several times this season that he is not capable of following even a simple storyline in the current "pubescent" show, and who is repeatedly making incorrect remarks because he didn't understand the plot properly (for example how Daenerys has more than 100 ships without Euron ), is making ridiculous posts like this one and throwing shallow insults. That is what is really rich here.

It is funny indeed how several pretentious snobs here think that hating on Jon or Daenerys, cheering for the bad guys or meaningless shallow twists, insulting others and constantly whining and spitting at the show for the sake of whining only, makes them look smarter and better than the rest of us.

And now she goes back to LF why exactly?

Or make the Starks go begging for help in the North and look completely clueless and dumb all the way, just to have LF show up at the very last minute to save the day.

And who in their right mind would proclaim that reckless idiot Jon Snow as KitN? He hasn't shown anything in the show that would make him a great leader of men.

In the book, yes, he was shown to be smart, very ressourceful and a careful planner, although prone to heroic antics (= his personal struggle in the book: concile his need to help those in need vs. the necessity to let go of his heroic instinct for a greater good which is a truly epic struggle unlike what you propose).

The same in even greater degree for other characters. Tyrion in the books - a fun character, but terribly flawed. He's a character that was rejected through (he thinks) no fault of his own and now is in danger to really become the monster everybody says he is. That's how you build a compelling character story.

The show character has not even the slightest similarity with that guy - he is somehow revered by everybody and his advice much sought after - completely boring.

ETA: I'd like to add the inner struggle Daenerys goes through in the books because you don't seem to understand such themes. She struggles between her wish to reclaim the Iron throne and her knowledge of the price. Many people are going to die to make her queen. That price is symbolised by her monstrous children - the dragons which she keeps chained to keep them (and her own desires) in check.

In book 5 she appears to be willing to finally pay the price and give up on "planting trees": Fire and blood, dragons plant no trees, she prompty forgets the name of the little girl her monsters have killed (Hazzea).

In fact I think she is all set up to come to Westeros as an antagonist, especially with her bunch of Westeros rejects coming along (Dothraki, Ironborn, Tyrion, slaves).

In the show it's just "Draecerys!", look how awesome I am!!!

We? You talking in pluralis maiestatis here? Not everybody enjoys such simple stories of how the good guys inevitably defeat the bad guys.
You are being inconsistent here with both your previous post and your signature. Please clear what you want with yourself first.

And no this is not what show has been doing at all. And this is anything but simple show where good guys win. You can't in your right mind claim that. However doing a meaningless plot twist where very bad guys are winning the whole game at the end would just be a terrible story telling, not a "complex intelligent deep story". LOL.

The rest of your post is just a bunch of unrealistic expectations for a TV show vs the books, which can't be achieved even with 30 episodes per season let alone 10.
