Agree - if he leaves it will put serious questions marks on Tennis Australia's treatment of players, and their priorities in general. TA haven't really made an effort to help Bernie's image become more positive after the scandals of last year, which you would think would be in their best interests - it's a weird dynamic.

Anyway, I will definitley shed a tear if such a talented, humorous player such as Bernie leaves. That would be a bad thing for Aussie tennis, although the public would no doubt think otherwise.

Groth should be used for doubles, no way Millman should be picked ahead of him. It's an easy 4 picks in my opinion. Tomic, Kyrgios, Groth, Peers. Anything else is just plain silly (no offense to John either, his start to the year has been great).

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

You would imagine that it will be Tomic / Kyrgios / Groth / Peers - while John Millman is probably ahead of Nick as a singles player at the moment form wise, I don't know whether he would match up great against the likes of Isner, Sock and Johnson on a grass court.

The other issue is that John will be in Indian Wells qualies a couple of days after the tie (the others won't) and probably deserves to make the most of that, given the ludicrous 24+ hour trip to Bogota after the QF in Darwin last year which sapped all his energy!

And I certainly can't argue with Anderson as the choice of orange boy. Yes, Jasika probably had a valid claim too, but one Slam victory and precious little else can't quite equal a number of good performances by Oliver - he may have come into the frame more if the other team had a high profile lefty...

The Tomic to Turkey shenanigans have been in the works for years. Interesting development though.

Millman should be in for Groth based on current form but I don't see it happening...

Orange boy is Oliver Anderson (excellent choice, Lleyton!). Kokk is out with injury. So presumably:

Tomic (assuming Turkey haven't yet found enough money to acquire his services: Turkish Tennis Federation bids to offer Australian player Tomic cizitenship - TENNIS)

Kyrgios (if he's feeling like me might care about tennis today, and isn't injured).

Peers in the interests of having at least one competent doubles player.

On current form you'd have to put Millman way above Groth, but I guess given that this grass a chance Groth will pull up his game.

I guess if I was Hewitt I'd name all five of them and leave it til the eleventh hour to pick who plays.

Lleyton Hewitt to call Australia's DavisCup camp in Melbourne next week. He is expected to have 10-12 of the most likely representatives.

Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Canberra desperate to get the DC tie apparently:

Quote:
One of Australia's leading grass court experts will look at converting lawn bowls greens into tennis courts as Tennis ACT leaves no blade of grass unturned in their bid to bring the Davis Cup to Canberra.

Tennis ACT chief executive Ross Triffitt will bring Albury curator Shayne Ried to Canberra this weekend to help with their bid for Australia's Davis Cup tie against the USA in March.

While he was focussed on a bid to use their brand new plexipave show court, Triffitt said they'd also examine the possibility of putting a drop-in court on top of that hardcourt.

But a grasscourt bid would also require about four practice courts.

Triffitt said they would tap into Ried's expertise to look at potentially turning a lawn bowls green, as well as other existing grass surfaces, into practice facilities.

Ried was brought in by Tennis Australia to build the grass courts used for Australia's last home Davis Cup tie in Darwin in July.

"He's one of the leading consultants in grasscourt tennis and somebody Tennis Australia would be using for any of the grasscourt constructions," Triffitt said on Tuesday...
You mean the guy who built the grass court that almost lost us the tie...

Quote:
The Canberra Tennis Centre has undergone a $10.5 million facelift, which included a plexipave show court that can house 4000 fans, with the express purpose of bringing elite tennis back to the nation's capital.

While there were no grasscourts at the centre in Lyneham, Triffitt said they'd also consider installing some.

He said that option would also provide Canberra's emerging star Nick Kyrgios with somewhere to train on grass.

"If we were to build a more permanent solution it would give us an advantage for future bids as well," Triffitt said.

"It would be fantastic for Nick, for some of his preparations, and that's why we'd consider the potential of putting in a more permanent solution."...
