What do you think, especially at the O2 Final?

  • It's normal for Fed to be cheered/Murray jeered, same would happen to Nadal/Djoko at home

  • The English still don't give Murray credit, and might never do, even to the point of booing him

  • Americans and Aussies are just generally more friendly, fair people

Is Murray better liked in America than Britain?

Judging from the support he got at the USO versus in Wimbledon and the WTF, one might get that impression. The NYC crowd, which can be hostile, was very warm and supportive of him for the most part.
Consider his last match of the year:

There was much talk of a change in attitudes toward him after the Wimbledon loss, but that might have just been Olympics euphoria. The O2 was a hostile a crowd as I've seen toward Andy outside other than at the French. I can't think of another top 10 player that would receive that sort of reception at home.

The answer is that he isn't liked anywhere he goes.

He's probably the least liked player, hands down. He got an absolute shit storm of a crowd in his last three/four tourney appearances. Toyko was pretty minor, but the crowd's hate for Mandy in Shanghai, Paris and WTF was pretty severe. I'm getting the feeling that he's being ridiculed ever since winning USO.

Well the least liked players? probably the likes of Tipsarevic, Berdych, Almagro, etc.

Murray hasn't reached that level of dislike I think

Yes, I think he is more liked in New York. Seems to have a few star- fans too, eg, Will Ferrell. I have noticed the support he gets there - perhaps it's cos he won Juniors there one year or perhaps because he is British and there is sentimental attachment for Brits?

Aussies like him also, he gets good support at the AO.

Lest we forget that the current Scottish First Minister, whom the Scottish people voted in, is currently seeking to break away from the UK if he gets his way in the referendum. If anything Scottish people are determined to have nothing to do with the English, not vice versa so I'm sure you can understand why we don't exactly embrace them.
That's as stupid and ill-informed a comment as I've seen on here. The SNP came to power because Scotland was sick of the ruling Labour Party. Ever current poll for independence however has support at around 30% so having a nationalist party in power hardly means we want to separate from the UK. They were merely the better option. Your ignorant post does however illustrate why English people are not very popular in Scotland (or most other countries in the world). ;)

I was at Wimbledon and the Olympics and Andy was treated like a God at both events. I've never been a Murray fan but it was still enjoyable getting caught up in the crowd support when I was at his matches. His problem at the O2 was that after winning Olympic gold and the US Open, fans expected a newer, better Murray. I'm not in favour of booing anyone but I can understand why he lost fan support when he reverted to his old ways in the Federer match. I've never liked his attitude but he is long past the time when the public will put up with him behaving like a stroppy teenager on court especially as it seems to lose him matches.

Keep reading his comments then. This dude is something else, just when you think the quality of his posts can't possibly get worse he finds new depths to sink to

People just don't get his wit and sense of humour. Their loss really. As for his on-court behaviour, yeah he has his faults but so does everyone. Just your typical brash Scotsman releasing some steam...

Part of the reason he gets booed in London is because he's Scottish as well. He loves it as well, couldn't care less...

Annie Mugray is not liked anywhere, full stop.

He is yet another overrated run of the mill hooligan with a huge mouth and little talent.

By now most people have realized it and rightfully boo him off court. Commentators make fun of him as well. His only supporters are nationalistic fangirls like Sapeod and Corey Failman.

Federer is alright compared to the likes of Faker and Pochahontas (most human beings are so it's not saying much :help:) but he's got this fake attitude going on some times. Even though he's been honest in some of his opinions he rarely truly says things as they are and chooses to pick the "right words" in order to mellow down his speech and make it more swallowable for the media and his dumbdowned fans. if he were more straighforward and less afraid of showing his true colours he'd have less crowd support and less fans around the world but at the same time he'd gain more intelligent fans and be an overall more respected person by the ones who count more.

I live in London and Murray is generally well supported here.

As for the O2 crowd, I doubt the people loudly cheering for Federer and booing Murray were English. Let's assume 25% of the crowd was not British, that is more than enough to make it sound like the crowd is anti Murray if those 25% are louder than the remaining 75%.

why so surprised? who could like a whiner pusher?

Silly folks who read into stuff in tabloids over here will never like him because of the exaggerated importance of this comment made in an interview.

The interview host and Tim Henman are discussing the 2006 World cup and mocking Scotland for not being there. This is all in good humour.

Host: So Andy, who will you be supporting?
Andy: Anyone but England
Some people forget the context and hate him for that comment. However it's forgotten that Andy actually lives in West London and his girlfriend is English.....

Obviously this is not all of England who dislike Muzza for this, I mean there are loads of idiots out there but this is the reason that comes out the most.

the english crowd are a bunch of pampered stiffs. i really wouldn't expect anything remotely close to class from them. a pack of hyenas could do a better job supporting one of their own than their bunch. then again, i guess the uptight english don't consider a scott truly as one of their own. their loss. i hope scotland gets their independence soon enough so that england remains lonely as a mug tennis nation without having to claim some sort of forced alliance with the rest of the UK in order to feel some type of union jack patriotism. fuck them.

I don't understand why Murray is hated through out the world. It just makes no sense. The lack of respect and disgusting behaviour by people oh here and ppl through out the world is embarrassing. He is an human being, not the devil. He has done nothing wrong to deserve this hate and I for one am embarrassed to call myself British, You should be ashamed of yourself. He has brought nothing but determination, spirit and effort to this sport. The many times I have seem people say he is a mug, he should retire, he should do this do that is very demoralising and pathetic. and as a matter of fact the British are pompous gits when it comes to tennis. Their mentality is just all about glory hunting and and that crap. They don't respect the game as well as others do.

Thing is I find booing fun but not when it's someone booing their own national hero.

For example the DC atmospheres like South America, Chileans throwing stuff at Zabaleta (who I liked) that was awesome. That's hostility. Come to our town and we'll give you the welcome you deserve etc.

But to boo your own, nah I'm out.

why is he hated though give me one good reason? exactly there is no valid reason. Yes I am serious. You criticize Andy when hasn't won a slam and then you ridicule him when he wins a slam. The guy can't win. did the tears at Wimbledon or the effort he has put in this year not change your mind about Murray? what a bunch of hypocrites

I agree. Not even Nole got this treatment in yesterday's final. It's weird.
