Re: Will Nadal be better than Ferrer at the age of 31?

Impossible since Nadal at 26 has played almost as many matches as Ferrer at 30. It's all about mileage not age. Nadal has a lot of mileage already and has played many epic matches since he was 18 years old.

Don't think he'll be around when he's 31. Unless he plans to take around 3 years off before returning at 29 and prolong his career. His knees are audibly creaking. He'd make a really shit ninja at the moment.

I honestly don't think Nadal will be playing at age 31. I don't think he can cope with the baldness.

A better question: Will Nadal be better than Hewitt at age 31.
Given the somewhat similar styles of play, and early development and success on tour.

I say yes, but he won't be as good as say Haas has been after 30.

Ferrer was practically non-existent as a relevant player till 2007. By that time Nadal won 3 slams already despite beig 4 years younger.

Re: Will Nadal be better than Ferrer at the age of 31?

Depends on his health and his motivation.
There's this...

Nadal to quit after Rio? Who did you talk to? What did they actually say? Can you confirm? And why would that make people "happy or sad"? I'm sure everyone will stick with sad, non-fans included.

• I trust my source here. But let's be clear: No one is saying he is definitely retiring after Rio. He is targeting that as a time to wrap things up, proceeding on the assumption he has four more years. On the one hand, he still seems young and it's a shame his body won't let him play forever. On the other hand, he will be 30. Who knows, maybe they'll discover some cutting edge knee treatment that enables him to play another decade. I'd encourage you to enjoy the guy while he's around and not count off months like prisoners awaiting their parole date.

Given that Nadal was an early starter in the game, the amount he has played and the condition of his body then hard to see Nadal at number 4 at the age of 31.

Stick to your usual Del Shitro worship, because your tennis knowledge is pathetic at best.

Nadal almost played as much as Ferrer even though he is 4 years younger than him.
this... just too many miles on his body. but I do see a few more slams, maybe a solid career up until 29, maybe 30. he won't play unless he can still be dominant, just look at the last few months. he probably could have already come back but he is OCD about being in perfect playing condition. if he begins to decline or injuries probe him constantly, he will just retire.

I see 2 more good years

This. Nadal could become the GOAT at wheelchair tennis at 30 though.

I'm afraid you're right. I don't think his body will take it for that long.

Re: Will Nadal be better than Ferrer at the age of 31?

He will stil dominate clay probably but not playing a lot outside clay.

Agassi started very young and at 33 he was number 1 (although he barely played in 1997, it was only one year), it's impossible to know how he will hold on.
