What do you think, should WTF have some kind of qualification? I think it wouldn't be a bad idea. For example in 2007, hot Nalby would've been a dangerous opponent in the Masters Cup. And now having players like Tipsy in WTF sounds so crazy, he'll be the walking bye. For example, Janowicz would be a much more dangerous opponent in London. I know qualy would dilute the idea of year-end final, but I think a hot #10-20 player is more dangerous than #7-8 who aren't necessarily playing their best tennis at the end of the season. I'd have six direct entries and an 8-player qualy for the remaining two spots. Or just give WCs based on Paris performance.
Well it's just unfair to those, in general, who have been working so hard for it all year while some random pre-mug suddenly gets hot one week before WTF, and so what? He automatically qualifies because of that? Please.
Let's think for a minute. A guy can start the season superbly, reaching SF in Australia and then maybe F in Indian Wells or Miami. And then he disappears for the rest of the season. Despite that, he can still make the WTF with those points. Now is that fair ?
Or, a guy can vulture the weak fields to grab points , like Ferrer and Monaco, and be a huge candidate for the WTF.
On the other hand, a guy can have a weak first half only to regain his form in the second half.
Given all these possibilities, WC system would be both fine and fair.
You could have like the top 6 automatically and 2 places decided after qualies between say the next 8, that would effectively involve the top 20 and we'd have less tankers I reckon.
But Janowicz as a wild card? Nope...he doesn't deserve it.
I also don't like the round robin format, more tanking encouraged.
