Re: Andy Murray got a good dose of a super Pro-Fed crowd

The final yesterday, the crowd wanted to see a third set,but also they're more fonder of Djokovic,of perhaps wanted to see a different champion this timeThe atmosphere was good.

After the final it's pretty evident they just don't care for Murray. The support for Djokovic was almost as overwhelming as for Federer.

Everybody loves Federer, not only the Chinese

this is what happens when you manufacture an image of smugness and entitlement hidden by the facade of acceptance and niceness

people can't handle murray and djokovic's honesty and directness

they much prefer the charades of federer and nadal and their humble fake modesty

Other than that, it depends on where you're asking. I've been to Indian Wells each year for the past few or so, and I don't think Djokovic has gathered the crowd's support in the way that Federer and Nadal have, even after his big year in 2011.
I think we were talking about the Asia fan base. The clothes are made in China, I hear. I went to IW last year and Larry Ellison and his 14 year old girlfriend are huge Fed fans so yeah, IW is Fed territory for now.

True, though I dont think they were really on his case today, the atmosphere today was different to the one against Gasquet in the FO for example. In both matches, UE's from Andy were cheered but I don't think the crowd today were meaning to be disrespectful. They just badly wanted to see a third set and got a bit over-excited, whereas against gasquet the crowd were pretty mad at him and wanted to show it.

That was crazy It took me a while to realize what was actually going on. I loved that.

There are different forces at play.

i think the Chinese have a sympathetic bond with Serbia because of the U.S. bombing their embassy in Belgrade. In the U.S. there's still some lingering feeling of thinking the Serbians are ethnic cleansers. Also Novak has been courting the crowds for some time with being wiling to speak their language and to entertain them when prodded by announcers.

Andy Murray gets a little more support at IW because he's an English speaker, but I don't see the crowds really embracing them. Overall I'd say that the IW crowd's favorite is Federer unless he plays an American and then it's still never against Federer. Then Nadal, then Murray, then Djokovic. But, it's pretty even with these last three. I think the crowd likes Djokovic quite a bit, and there are certainly Nadal haters in the crowd.

It's an establishment crowd. I've cheered for Coria when he played against Agassi and Enqvist against Sampras. It takes balls.

Murray was definitely not loving the crowd in the final.

I agree with you. I didn't think the support would be so boisterous and in favour of Djokovic. Murray did a good job of keeping them relatively quiet until Djokovic broke back in the 2nd and then the crowd support carried him through the remainder of the match.

Thankfully, that doesn't seem to bother him, and instead, only seems to inspire him. I'd rather that, than the completely pacifist British crowd during the Wimbledon final this year.

I don't expect the crowd to be as vociferous in favour of Djokovic today.

Guess they had better get used to it. ;-)
