There were a lot of good points, but Tsonga clowning in crucial moments was the story as always. Djokovic was not at his best today, especially in the tb, but Jo couldn't step up/not double fault.

Which does not affect him in any way during this season.

He has played 3 this year: Dubai, Monte Carlo and Beijing.

I'm sure he'll be given a WC if he asks for one. Murray was given one last year...

My guess is that Novak wants to be fresh for Paris/WTF...but he may change his mind.
If he doesn't do well in Shanghai, (which I have a feeling he won't since he peaked too early for Beijing instead) he'll probably get a WC into Basel.

Expected. Clownga's glaring weaknesses in his game will be exposed every time when he faces a truly elite tennis player. You simply can't serve and bash your way through scrubs and expect to win titles. The sport doesn't work this way anymore. Clownga would do well to spend some of his prize money on developing a time machine and transport himself back into the 90's where mindless servebots and ballbashers won big titles. I am afraid his prospects in today's game are bleak indeed.

I don't think Lahyani's call really affected anything. Jo played a good couple of points after that before making his mistakes to lose the TB.

I do feel that the current way handling of overruling a call like that is quite shaky though. It tends to be a split-second thing and relying entirely on the umpire's discretion on a case to case basis is only asking for arguments.

Basel is not in his schedule, he doesn't have to announce anything - except if he wants to play after all. Then he'll get a WC.

The 500 requirement is not something the top players take too seriously. None of them has played four this year. Nor did they last year. As MC counts to the 500 category, Djokovic will end up with three - same as Federer.
