They are in terms of ranking points if you are a direct entry. If you look at Roger's points breakdown, he has zero points from RG and Flushing Meadow last year, but both are included in his tournament count. Masters' are a different kettle of fish with the 1/2/3 exemption thing. There's a thread hereabouts showing how this works and who has how many exemptions.

Well, looks like it's more complicated than I thought: How Reduction of Commitment works.

Basically Federer is exempt from "Player Commitment", which includes participating in the Masters, because he has reached all the milestones necessary to be eligible for said exemption.

Nadal will be eligible next year and Djokovic/Murray the year after that.

Additionally, if none of the milestones apply and a Top 30 player (defined as "Commitment Player" by the ATP) doesn't participate in a Masters, his result for that master still counts towards his ranking. This should also mean, if that player has instead participated in smaller tournaments, they will not count towards his ranking.

Thanks for the quick answer.
Now, I understand why he lost to #772 Marcora 6-4 6-1.....

In the other end of the scale.

Federer had 416-53 or 88,7%
Djokovic 292-39 or 88,2%
Nadal 194-33 or 85,5%
Sampras 332-67 or 83,2%

Lendl and Connors would have been interesting but figures are not reliable that far back.

You can check TennisAbstract.

This is for Murray:
Tennis Abstract: Andy Murray ATP Match Results, Splits, and Analysis

W/L 21-7, or 75%. That's not a record low, I can tell you that. He had 17-2 to start so just 4-5 recently, which is causing impression the whole reign was poor.

For comparison, Yevgeny Kafelnikov with his 6 weeks had 6-4 or 60%.
Mats Wilander with his 20 weeks had 8-5 or 61,5%
Gustavo Kuerten with his 43 weeks had 46-17 or 73%

From the ATP Rankings FAQ:

Quote:
Q: What is the ranking structure and formula for 2017?

A: For every Grand Slam or mandatory ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament for which a player is not in the main draw, [...], the number of his results from all other eligible tournaments in the ranking period, that count for his ranking, is increased by one (1). In weeks where there are not four (4) Grand Slams and eight (8) ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in the ranking period, the number of a player’s best results from all eligible tournaments in the ranking period will be adjusted accordingly.
Apparently the ATP uses "mandatory" in the sense that only 8 Masters 1000 count towards a player's rankings, even if you played in more than 8 Masters 1000 tournaments. There are no mandatory tournaments as in "If you don't play you will get punished in some way".

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

@raysun68 I thought at first it was reserved mostly for the younger players (did see Duckworth and Vekic playing there) but then Cornet and Errani played there so I don't know why.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

Is there somewhere you can check how many protected rankings a player has used and how many he has left?
