Re: Phil Bester

Bester seems to be lucky right now. It's been raining in LA. They are still waiting to finish off 7 first round matches, including Bester's opponent. They are trying to get both the 1st and 2nd round done today.

hello, Canadian MTF fellow members!

pardon my sheepish post... as, or, although i know that i am in the Tennis Canada SubForum, it is impressive that all the flags, as far as i see, are of the sugar maple. beautiful red and white.

Re: Phil Bester

It's been raining all day in Los Angeles today, looks like the current schedule has them trying to start to play in about 3 hours. They've cancelled all the doubles matches for today and they have lights, so late play shouldn't be an issue.

They were supposed to start around 8 am (PT), but now not until 5 pm (PT)

Re: Phil Bester

It seems to be a pattern with Phil that he plays at a higher level when he's in Canada, but his results are not as good when he's in other countries.

His match at the US Open qualies was a total missed opportunity. His groundstrokes and serve were far superior to his opponent, but he lost the match through terrible play in the key points, and as you say his movement. If you look at technique he should firmly be in the top 200, maybe near top 100. Its the other parts of his game that seem to let him down. Now it was his first GS qualies so maybe he was nervous, but the results since that time seem to back my assumptions up. I think Granby unfortunately was more a fluke. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Phil Bester

Not a good outing for Bester. Lost to Quentin Halys 6-1 2-6 6-0. Converted only 2 of 6 break points, while saving only 1 of 6. Between the 1st and 3rd sets he won only 7 service points, 6 in the 1st set, and only 1 in the third.

It is great that we have so many futures events these days.

Re: Phil Bester

Looks very good for Phil to get into US Open qualifying. Hopefully he can do some damage!

Hoping he gets a WC for the Rogers Cup.

He's not in the draw... I guess he was exhausted after playing many matches in singles and doubles.

Re: Phil Bester

Great run but too inconsistent today... ranking looking good though, hopefully a sign of good things to come if he stays healthy
