Re: The FedPotro Thread

Federer and His Agent Start Their Own Firm Representing Athletes
By CHRISTOPHER CLAREY \ December 11, 2013

In the latest shift in a sports management business that appears to be trending toward the boutique, Roger Federer has joined with his longtime agent Tony Godsick and two American investors to form an agency called Team8.

The company, based in the Cleveland area and headed by Godsick, will represent the interests of Federer, the 32-year-old Swiss tennis star, who is one of the world’s highest-earning and most popular athletes. But Team8 also has signed one of Federer’s main rivals, the fifth-ranked Juan Martín del Potro of Argentina, with input from Federer, who spent considerable time with del Potro on an exhibition tour of South America last year.

I find friendly rivalries boring and competitively emasculated; the Williams sisters meeting in a final proved to be an utter abomination for any tennis fan with eyeballs.

I concede that seeing Pony hit thru Fed is pleasant to watch. Fed's always been troubled by persistent and powerful hitters and has a tendency to crumble after a while. I wish there were more Tsongas, Berds, Ponys, Djokers, Nadals around 5 years earlier.

It's ironic that Fed's been so friendly towards Nadal despite the latter engaging in the same behaviours that earned NoleRay Fed's bitter attitude. This leads me to believe that some players on the tour behave just like the rest of us, where we like some people more than others for whatever reasons.
You can see by Roger's face and body language that he likes and respects Rafa and Juan Martin. Roger is civil to Novak but it's clear there's no liking there.

Very friendly rivalry, and that's good.

They bring the best out of each other - Fed can outmaneuver Delpo but Delpo can overpower Fed.

Today I trained with a friend at Wimbledon and we remember the historic party of the Olympic Games.
Partido means 'match', not 'party' :-p
