Endless Federer-Nadal debates

Roger Federer reached all four slam finals in 2007, Nadal reached 3 finals and a quarter final.

Roger won the prestigious Tennis Masters Cup. We will have to wait to see if Nadal can win the WTF.

Federer won 8 titles in 2007, including 3 grand slams.

Nadal won 3 grand slams in 2010, including the prestigious RG Wimbledon double. He also won 3 slams in a row.

Both players had interesting slam draws. Federer had to beat world number two Rafael Nadal in Wimbledon final, and a very on fire Djokovic in the US Open. Nadal had to beat Bird Itch in Wimbledon final and a very tired Djokovitch in Us Open final.

2007 was probably Federers least impressive 3 slam season, 2010 was Nadals best season so far one would have to think.

So who had a better season?

Discuss.
The floor is yours. Have at it.

Re: Olympics Final: Murray destroys Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4

Obviously, how much he has conquered in tennis singles, he has won almost all major tournaments he has played. He has all grandslams, yet he will not have an olympics gold in singles. That will always show up when he looks his achievement. He might also be happy because he got a medal this time. But, that remains as joy for only some time.
How many Olympic gold for Sampras?

Re: Olympics Final: Murray destroys Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4

Rafa is 26 years old and the WTF is played every year. Rogie is 31 and now he will have to wait 4 years for another chance.

It's safe to assume that Rafa has a better shot to win the WTF than Fed getting the gold medal in the Olympic singles anytime soon.

Anyways, Olympic gold medal >>> WTF. :)

Debatable... Look who you have to defeat in the draw at the Olympics vs WTF.

Re: Olympics Final: Murray destroys Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4

Federer was of course nr.1 at the olympics in 2004, however he was unfortunate enough to run into Berdych, a player who would become a solid top tenner in the coming years.
Rafa had to play Djoko in 2008 a player who has become a solid topthreener and a grand slam winner in the following years.

what is more likely to happen ?

A) Tevez gets his teeth fixed once and for all
B) Spain wins a gold medal at these Olympics

???

Re: Olympics Final: Murray destroys Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4

Federer has an Olympic Gold already.

Beijing 2008 medal table Switzerland got the same number as Spain did from the tennis competitions.
this, a country couldn't care less on what sport or discipline or mode his countryman win the gold, it counts the same, and Olympics is for play for your country and not for your own achievement. About WTF maybe Nadal can win it if they change it to clay, keep praying. :)

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

Well, I am glad all reasonable people in this thread agree WTF>>>>Olympics. Now we can continue this debate knowing Fed is GOAT and Nadal is trying to reach his zillion records :wavey:.
:superlol: Federer will never be the GOAT, gloryhunter :wavey: A Bitch can't be the GOAT

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

GS>WTF>>Olympics>>>Masters1000>>>>>>>>>>Monte Carlo
I wonder what that order would have looked like if Fed had won yesterday

Poor Fedtards and gloryhunters, they were ready to troll and boast about Fed finally winning Olympic gold in singles, "stick it" to the Rafa and Nole fans, bow to their "God", shout "GOAT" in every single post... And now, after Murray demolished Federer, the Olympics are not at all important :superlol:

Career Golden Slam winners: Steffi Graff, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams :worship:

I don't see Fed's name there, but you are free to bring up his Gold medal in doubles as if it matters

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

There really isn't a debate on who is greater, Fed or Nadal.

Other than RG titles, Olympic Singles Gold, Davis Cups, and H2H, Fed has Nadal by a mile

Maybe Rafa has more weeks at #2, but that is hardly worth.

This thread and all the most recent posts here are about the Olympics vs. WTF so you're missing the point.

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

Thank you. I don't need to say anything except the fact that RN may well win one WTF when RF is close to retirement. I hope Muzz stops Murray as a bit of karma for the many things Nadal has denied Muzzah.

Well, it's not as if his WTF-career has been similar to Fed's experiences at RG. It is not one man consistently standing in his way. He has just one final, after all, in his very best year. I don't think he will win this one.

Re: Olympics Final: Murray destroys Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4

poor Fumus- must be awful to be so consumed with the need to disparage one person's achievements at every turn :haha: - and to know in the end, that whatever you postulate here isn't a) reaching Fed's ears and b) will make absolutely no difference to his achievements or other people's perceptions of him and his career
I don't care what Federer thinks...LOL. I mean, you think I post this stuff because I want him to read it. I post my opinion here for the same reason everyone else does, I want to voice my point of view. I don't care if you agree with me or not.

I think that the Olympics are a joke event for professional tennis players and shouldn't even be held.

the more Roddick has declined, the more of a trolling parrot Fumus is. Coincidence or?
Well I guess, you'll be dealing with "trolling parrot Fumus" until I die then. It's really been about this forum and as I've increased with my knowledge about this sport, I get more sick of reading the stupid crap that's posted here. I'm here to liberate readers of this board from the tyrannical postings of crazy fan boys and trolls. I'm giving you a better class of poster. ;)

Hahaha. Wow. Less meaningful, really... because his greatest rival is not good enough to reach the final?

This gets into a whole new dimension of retardation.
Of course it is....are you joking me? Those wins are tainted. It's like the 1987 NFL season...with scab players.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_NFL_season

if nadal is beated by the nº100 it`s not federer fault.....

nadal never defeated federer in slam with the exception of roland garros when federer was in his peak , when nadal started with his peak and roger started his decline , nadal could beat him in wimbledon and australia , both slams in an more slower surface than before and he needed 5 very hard sets to defeated past peak federer.

nobody said nothing when nadal is winning very much in clay in a most weak era on clay of all times , I mean where are the greatest clay specialist of this era?????

his main rivals , are two fast courts specialists , nole and federer
Huh? Nadal has owned Fed forever...since he came on the scene. Pure PWNERSHIP.

Anyway it's just IF, no ? WHAT IF is the endless debate. For example, what happened if this era has more high-quality clay court specialists ?
You are correct....IF debates are pointless. I will say however, that winning RG and Wimbledon by dodging your main rival is definitely less meaningful.

Also, I am right about Federer never winning RG if he kept having to play Nadal in the final...and also never winning another GS if he had to play Nadal to win it.

Is it a coincidence. Fumus, tangy , n star are very active in this thread lol.
This is a classy thread, we are just a bunch of classy posters. Also, I'm awesome and any thread I post in becomes instantly better and more interesting. You should be thankful for the knowledge I am imparting on you. It's like pure tennis gold.

Fumus jumping on the clay courters back . Z zzzzzzzz wake me up when he wins a 250 off clay he he.
Last year he was Novaks BITCH , losing 7 in a row. Even fed never put up those numbers against his greatest rival .Fed destroyed roddicks career nothing u can do about it now Fumus.
The Olympics in tennis are meaningless + Murray being a choker + Federer's tainted GOAT status = Roddick sucks? Wait what?!

LOL, I love posting in the GM. I can really say anything...like I enjoy Macoroni and cheese and posters will say "Roddick sucks, get out of here!". Jeesh! I don't see how Roddick is relevant in this matter, except that you want to say hurtful things about my favorite. That just makes me sad. Really your words are like daggers that cut me to my very core. OUCH!

It is impossible to fault Federer because Nadal could not keep up with him in reaching those finals, an argument not only retarded, it shows extremely bad faith from the one putting it forward. No wonder you support Nadal.

Who's faulting Federer!? I am not faulting him.

I am saying that his wins mean less without facing his rival. It's like taking a multiple choice English test without the written essay part that you suck at. Sure you got an "A" but someone omitted the biggest part of the test for you.

For certain there is a distinction between 250 and 1000 events. Yes you could argue that winning a 250 event is still winning a tournament and thus equal to winning any other non slam event. The difference between a 250, 500 and 1000 tournie is the competition, OH SNAP! That's why some posters here like to call top players vultures for winning such 250 mickey mouse events...

Roger can't beat Nadal in a slam...he won't. The wins he has since 2008 are tainted, he's a benefit of luck and circumstance. Nothing more.

I don't get why there is a special name for a Golden Career Slam but nothing for a WTF Career Slam. I guess the latter doesn't have a nice ring to it.
I agree they are both BS for a tennis player. The idea of a career grand slam is stupid as Australia has changed it's surface several times now (as has the US open) and when Laver won them it was purely grass and clay. Deco didn't exist yet...let alone plexicushion.

Thus the idea of the career grand slam has changed; it's a fallacy. We can makeup whatever we want and the media can create hype around whatever they like...but really it remains...

1)Wimbledon
2)US Open and French Open
3)Aussie

If and when you win any of these you become tennis royalty. If you win more than one, you become a great...if you win more than anyone else you become a legend....you will never become the GOAT because someone else will pass you. Time will allow new champions always. All you can be is the greatest of all current time The GOACT.

(I'm counting on the fact that the world will not end in 2012 when I say all of this, if it does then Federer is by far the GOAT)

There is no grand slam, there are no bests ever...we love the best right now and who's number 1. The greats can be debated but as long as tennis continues to change with it's new surfaces, balls, racquets and string...not to mention the athletes becoming better, faster, taller and stronger...you really can't compare apples to oranges...it's like comparing foosball to fussball. ;)

Re: Olympics Final: Murray destroys Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4

Both players benefited from RAFA pulling out. In us open people will say now Murray will win but he hasnt beat any of RAFA, FED or NOLE in a slam for almost 2 years. Murray will lose in sf of uso, olympics win vs flat FED dont change that. The only chance Murray has of making a slam final is if he doesnt face top 3 or if NOLE/FED have a 4 hour battle with QF opponent. Even then, RAFA will take him out in final. Murray should thank JMDP for his gold, only RAFA could recover from that semifinal and still win but he was injured.
This is quite correct, actually. By beating Federer in the Olympics he's solidified his status as the Mickey-Mouse GOAT. However, it says nothing for how he will perform in slams. Nadal will be uber-hungry after crashing out of Wimby and missing the OG, Djokovic too will be in strong pursuit of another title having only won two this season, and of course Federer will want to right the wrongs of the past two years and keep himself ahead going into the part of the year where he defends most points. Can Murray compete against Fedalovic in a slam when they all have such desire in their hearts? Unfortunately he's still yet to show us that he can.

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

Why all the fighting we should just celebrate the greatest tennis Olympians in history.
Murray with 2 , I gold I silver
Fed with 2 , I gold (double) 1 silver.
Multiple champions , others are just flukes eg Massu etc.

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

The butthurt Fedtards are more bitter than ever, I love it

Suk it, idiots, Federina will never win a Career Gold Slam

But feel free to continue your delusional arguments that Fed having a DOUBLES gold medal actually matters :superlol:

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

Federina will never win a Career Gold Slam
:yeah:

That greatness only belongs to Graff, Agassi, Nadal and Serena... maybe even Nole in the future. A very exclusive club of true legends. :)

Re: Endless Federer-Nadal debates (WTF vs Olympics)

The WTF is an important title but there's no such thing as a "career WTF slam" - whether people at MTF like it or not all the tennis media have been tweeting and writing about the following achievements - "Serena Williams joins Graff, Agassi and Nadal" as the only winners of the career golden slam. Roger can enjoy his doubles medal but he won't ever have that. He has more than enough other things in his career for it not to matter all that much, BUT to pretend that a doubles gold and a silver single is worth more or is equal to a singles gold is utter nonsense. Would a swimmer want a relay gold and a silver or that one gold medal telling them they, and they alone, are the Olympic champion at that distance? No question - gold in an individual event is different - no one remembers who was in every 100m relay team - you remember the single runner.

And now it's clear that no matter what it might have been in the past, the players care about the Olympics way more than the WTF. Delpo said it was one of the best things that had ever happened to him (winning bronze!) and maybe better than winning a slam (maybe going a bit far but he's patriotic and it was Argentina's first medal!), Djokovic said those defeats have been some of the toughest of his career - no way does a WTF matter that much - mainly because they'll just try again next year. This is a once every 4 year opportunity -rare and thus more special.

Fed's tried to win it 4 times and has fallen short - in some ways it's ridiculous given how dominant he's been over that period - but it's just one of those things. Borg kept missing out on the US Open, Lendl on Wimbledon and for Fed it's the gold medal.
