Endless Djokovic/Federer Debates (Their rivalry)

Just something I thought about :p

let's think about it this way:

Fed's Australian Open = Djoko's Wimbledon.
Fed's Roland Garros = Djoko's Roland Garros.
Fed's Wimbledon = Djoko's Australian Open.
Fed's US Open = Djoko's US Open.

2003 & 2008 - First GS for each player
Both players won their first GS, and in their 'best' tournament of the four.

2004 & 2011 - First year of absolute Dominance
Both won 3 Slams in those year, and were more dominant than any other player on the tour. Also, the only Slam they didn't win was their worst Slam - RG. I know Fed's done it in 2004 which is of course right the next year after 2003, and Novak had a two year break, but oh well...

2005 & 2012 - A little less successful than the previous year
Only two Slams for Roger: His best one, and his second best. Novak has already won his best slam this year, so he now needs to win the USO :p

-------------

I'm kidding of course, but this is just interesting :)

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

the only serious difference between these 2 is number of titles won. Let's not forget that Djokovic has been to a couple of finals, including RG.

I think Roger is a bit more stable this year, but the odds are pretty much 50/50 between them. Let's just sit back and enjoy the show :)

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

I think they are pretty even, the only difference between them is that Federer has faced his slaves that has no hope or confidence that they can beat Federer. Uhmm Youzhny Uhmm del Potro Uhmm Berdych Uhmm Ferrer Uhmm Malisse.

That's because everyone but the top 4 is Federer's slave

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Stats wise in 2012 so far, I'd say that the top 3 overall are fairly even. Nadal isn't far behind despite the upset at Wimby.

We will see by the end of the year, won't we.

But it's not just about this year is it? If we go back until after the USO last year, Roger has won 8/15 events played. Djokovic has won 2/12. Their slam results has been pretty much the same since then. And as a previous poster showed the stats favor Roger as well. I think we can already conclude that Fed is the better player, even though the thread title is about 2012. Now of course if Djoke wins the USO that can change things. Djokovic clearly needs that title badly if he has any chance of having a better 2012 than Roger. If we look at just 2012 Djoke has won 2/9 and Roger 5/12. Remember it's not JUST about the slams. Other events come into play as well if the slam results are very close.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

i think the longevity is the last box that fed needed to tick to be goat

nole's 2012 hasn't been that bad actually

for a well past his prime fed to dominate in this era shows how weak nadal and noles eras were

and maybe how strong federer's 2003-2006 was

 Fed is dominating in this era? He won exactly one Slam in Nole and Nadal era. He's now again beating same players he was beating in his prime and his era.

31 years old Roger Federer > 25 years old Djokovic

I fully agree with it

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Yes in rankings. They are equal in achievements this year, both won one important match ag. each other at slams, Novak crushed Fed at RG although not in convincing form and vice versa at Wimbly with the difference of Federer not having real opposition in final. Had Novak played same number of tournaments as Fed did, he'd be still No.1 by this time. However USO will decide who is better this year in their second final I hope.

Fed was never into the FO. He didn't wana lose to Nadull in another FO final, so he let Djoke do the honors. At Wimby he brough his A game and so did Djoke, and the result followed.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Roger is mentally not losing anymore these close ass matches even when he should have closed earlyhe is closing it out in the finals sets. He's been doing all these down 2 sets to love and coming back victories as well. He also seems to lose the first set and not really get flustered as much. The tsonga world tour finals win and that win over davydenko really helped him out to get over that "hump".

I feel with nadal not playing olympics and rogers cup its eseentially fed and nole in opposite halves. Now I think no way in hell roger and nadal will be in the same half. It will be nole-rafa and they will be the late match and roger and maybe murray if he makes it will be the early match.

With the rumors of super saturday a go this year and the courts being quicker this year. Fed should have his chances. Besdies who doesn't want nole-fed final. There last 2 matches were 5 set thrillers.

I feel fed's confidence is going to spill over if he were to play nole again. Can't wait.

From marketing point of view the most interesting matches are Fed-Rafa and Fed-Nole (my fav) so I wouldnt be surprised to see Rafa in Feds half...but of course draws are not fixed so it could be both way ;)

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Its pretty much dead even imo, as the stats and rankings show. Fed marginally ahead, but Novak can easily regain the momentum.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Both have 1 major
Djokovic has 1 masters, Federer has 2
Djokovic has 1 GS final, Federer has 0

I'd say they're pretty equal
And other titles don't matter?

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

guys, let's be realistic here. Novak could've played any MM tournament in the world if he wanted to keep his #1 ranking. it doesn't matter if it's Serbian Open or Angola Open ... now, some of you Fed fans are making such a big deal out all of this (hey, 75 points ahead of Nole, number 1, please, Nole is still holding 2 slams if can remember correctly) ... Djokovic is still having better results at slams than Roger. not even sure why I even bother with this stuff ...

#88 ·
Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Well, Djoker had better results in the Slams than Fed or are you even debating that???
Fed's won one fewer GS match, losing to Nadal and Nole. Nole's lost to Nadal and Federer.

Triumvirate is 7/7 of the last 7 slams, and an insane 30-31, going back to AO 2005.

#103 ·
Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Fed's won one fewer GS match
Exactly, this. Djokovic fans acting like Djokovic is just SO much better at slams as if his results are so miles ahead against Federer when it's only a one match differential (and no difference in GS title count) So for 2012:

GS titles:
Federer - 1
Djokovic - 1

GS matches won:
Federer - 17
Djokovic - 18

Master titles:
Federer - 2
Djokovic - 1

Overall titles:
Federer - 5
Djokovic - 2

Of course this can still change over the course of the year but I see little to no doubt that so far, Federer is having the better year.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

it could be argued that Nadal's 2012 is better than Djokovics too if you just compare stats and titles...

actually overall it probably has been Federer > Nadal > Djokovic so far this season given the clay court season is Nadal's. also obviously Nadal typically preforms much worse at this point in the season and onward so....

Djokovic 2012 is probably #3 at this point BUT certainly it will be between him and Federer at the final stretches

Ah yes... the clay.

Can't wait to see how some overly enthusiastic Nole fans will react to this analysis.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Not sure why there's so much discussion. The answer to the question is here.

http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/YTD-Singles.aspx
Yea the stats are there but the timing is wrong. It's better to check at the end of the year. I think Federer has more points to defend, but I presume he will be number 1 till the end of the year.

Federer won Paris, Basel, Year End championships.

Djokovic and Nadal sucked in all of them or didn't attend them. The only tournament they collected more points than Federer was USO.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Rotterdam + Dubai + Indian Wells + Madrid + Wimbledon > Australian Open + Miami

That's it.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Federer is way too old to win the FO without a shitload of luck, why would he die on the court to beat Djokovic, considering he had a very small chance to win anyway (slower court, heavy balls unlike in 2011), and even if by some miracle he managed to win, he would be slaughtered by Nadal in the final? He has to take care of himself now and he shouldn't risk his health for a tournament too slow for him and where the victory is not on his hands.

This years, he had a chance for Wimbly / OG / USO and WTF, AO was very unlikely and FO almost impossible anyway.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

Lol Fedtards, lets wait for end of the year and stop gloating over 75 points lead, which Olderer will lose after olimpics.
TBH the fact that he took #1 back at his age and after his peak is impressive enough, whomever takes the most points from here to WTF will end up YE #1, let the better man do it, I don't have a problem with that, won't make excuses if Roger doesn't make it but if he does, I don't want to hear excuses from Noletards either.

Points are points. Rankings don't lie. Period.

Re: Federer 2012 > Djokovic 2012?

You cant live in the past and say Djokovic still is as good as he was in 2011, neither can you claim that 75 pts differense ends discussion about who is the greatest player in the world.

What I would say is that it will be decided in Usopen and that the contest is between Federer and Djokovic, there is no great differense between them this year.
