I like Dodig, so I'm hoping the withdrawal was more a preventative measure. I'd hate to see him out of the Wimbledon doubles.

For Vasek's first match, he gets ... drumroll please ... top seed and three-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic!! Sure, it's a tough draw, but it could turn out to be a golden opportunity. Novak ain't the player he used to be, and this will be his first match this year on grass. If Dennis Istomin could beat Novak on hard court, no doubt that Vasek is capable of beating Novak on grass.

And he won his first round match today!

He is playing against Djokovic tomorrow. He plays well on grass and he has beaten Murray earlier this season, so who knows?

Tuggy Won his first qualifying match today pretty easily. Faces the winner of Dodig/Diez tomorrow who have to play twice. So Vasek in good shape to qualify. He's also the #1 seed in qualifying.

Lost in a third-set tiebreak to Brown, not before saving five match points in the second and pulling off this beauty.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

so he finished in den bosch yesterday around 1800; and QR1 match in halle is 1500 local time today

it's 3 hours away by car but still

QR1 against Daniel Altmaier, local WC #249

if he wins that, Vanni or Escobedo for QFR

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Lost in straights. Was up a break in teh 2nd serving for the set at 5-3 but then lost the next 4 games to lose the set and the match. He'll have direct entry into Wimbledon though so that's a plus.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Had Dog in the final in my FITD draw so I'm pleasantly surprised with the win. Didn't see the Cilic match but he might be getable if he lost a set to Tipsarevic. Regardless of the result tomorrow this is a breath of fresh air to see. Vasek back into the top 80 and making an ATP QF

Draws Matwe Middelkoop, most likely the local pro there.

I was somewhat worried he'd have to face Nicolas Mahut, who was set to play against a qualifier and is a monster on grass - and who also won that tournament three times already - but he drew Tallon Griekspoor, a wildcard currently ranked #294. Couldn't have asked for better, so hopefully he takes advantage of it. Potential second round would be against Dolgopolov or Darcis, so winnable, and if he makes it to the QF, he would potentially face Cilic.
Middelkoop isn't some local club pro or that much of an unknown, he's older now so his singles ranking sucks but I remember him decently from GS qualies a bunch well back. He's been in the top 200. And his current doubles ranking is inside the top 60. Pretty much just a doubles player now I would imagine, but local tournament so the good doubles player who was a former solid singles player gets a qualies WC.

He won the doubles Sydney title this year and was the Rotterdam doubles runner up as well. His ranking would be much higher if he didn't focus almost exclusively on singles. Looking at his doubles activity I was actually surprised he hadn't played Vasek in double but I guess with Vasek focussing on getting his singles ranking back up it makes sense. He beat Soeda 2 and 1 in challenger qualifying thsi year though so he's no slouch.

Anyway good for Vasek to qualify and get the relatively easy win today. Next round should be much tougher whether it's against Darcis or Dog.
