Vasek got a bit down on himself during the match for a few misses, but really there was nothing he could do against Isner yesterday. Isner simply didn't put a foot wrong the entire match. First & foremost, he served great, and that alone makes it very tough for any opponent. Plus he returned well, hit both forehand and backhand strongly, and even served & volleyed a few times. Even if Vasek had played a perfect match, the best he could have done would have been to get to a tiebreak in each set, and winning a tiebreak against an "on" servebot is a crapshoot at best.

Vasek has a really good draw, and should he get past Thiem he'll have a good chance to reach at least R16.

Well, if Vasek had to draw a top 8 seed in 1R, I'd rather it be Thiem than anyone else. If Vasek gets past Thiem, his section of the draw (players #97-112) isn't particularly tough. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Vasek draws Thiem in round 1. Thiem has looked brutal on grass this year, so Vasek has a good shot here.

Brad1973 Pretty good numbers from Vasek against Djokovic. One ace per game, only two lost service games in the match and he won a third of return of serve points.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

I only caught the second set, but I thought Vasek actually held his ground pretty well in the back court rallies. He got into trouble when he approached on balls that weren't quite short or weak enough to come in behind. Despite all of Novak's woes over the last 12 months, he still has a helluva passing shot. It's nice to see that Vasek hung on 'til the very end. He hit a couple of great forehands in the last game, one a brilliant pass at full stretch. Oh well, beating even a struggling Novak was going to be tough. On to Wimbledon! May the Gods of the Kind Draw smile on Vasek this Friday.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Vasek lost in straight sets and didn't really trouble Nole too much.

Onto Wimbledon. Hopefully he gets a friendly draw!

I agree, Vasek has had a pretty respectable grass season to date. Despite all of Novak's woes, to borrow from another MTFer, Novak's 50% is better than most players' 100%. I just hope that Vasek walks on court believing that he can win because he is absolutely capable of pulling off the upset. As long as Vasek plays with belief and is able to harness that belief into top-quality tennis, then win or lose, it'll be a great match for Vasek. It's gotta be a huge privilege for the lower-ranked players every time they get a chance to play one of the all time greats of the sport. Hopefully Vasek sees it that way, not "what sh*tty luck, drawing Novak in the 2nd Round!"

For Vasek's first match, he gets ... drumroll please ... top seed and three-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic!! Sure, it's a tough draw, but it could turn out to be a golden opportunity. Novak ain't the player he used to be, and this will be his first match this year on grass. If Dennis Istomin could beat Novak on hard court, no doubt that Vasek is capable of beating Novak on grass.
Second match - he beat Vesely.

It would amazing that Vasek beats Murray and Djokovic in the same year... but I suspect that's not going to happen tomorrow.

Of course it would be the most Vasek thing ever to beat those two and somehow finish the season ranked 96
