It's such a shame, was an easy opportunity to get 90 points but only got 20. Can't wait for grass and hard courts to come back so he can actually beat some more ppl more often and get this ranking going a bit more

While I'm looking forward to the second half of the year, I'm not entirely sure his results will be that much better. At Wimbledon there will be pressure to defend the performance from last year, though if he is seeded (preferably top 24) then it may ease things. Then the schedule is pretty packed with him entered in Stuttgart, followed by the Olympics, Toronto, and Cincinnati all in a row before the US Open. So I don't know if fatigue or something will become a problem. Another thing is that these type of losses (I believe this was his third loss this season after having MPs) could start to hurt his confidence and play in tight situations in the future. I guess we'll just have to wait and see though...

I think Rafter was right with his comments from last month. I feel that since the start of the year, Bernard's play has dropped and now has plateaued.

I watch the streams from http://www.lshunter.tv/tennis-live-streaming-video.html

Mikhail Kukushkin overcame fifth seed Bernard Tomic, saving four match points to edge the 19-year-old 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Tomic managed to convert just four of his 20 break point opportunities and dropped serve six times in the second-round loss.
Missed opportunity as Monfils just lost, so he would have played Baker in the QF. Oh well... The RG draw comes out on Friday.

Yes, I was wondering if fatigue would ever be a problem, because he's played so continuously for the past few months. I just figured he's young so hopefully recovers quickly. And I sure do hope that he improves (and NOT plateaus!) with the grass and hard! Maybe just knowing that he feels more comfortable on those surfaces will help...

And thanks for the stream link :)

Before the end of this year's Aus open, Tomic had a reputation of being good under pressure. Beating Verdasco and and Dolgo in 5. Closing it out against Soderling when things were getting really tight in the 3rd set. But now he's turned into a terrible choker and plays makes match points in striking contrast to other points. My only thought why this could be is you've got nothing to lose when your an 18/19 year old ranked lower than the seeds. Bernie needs to deal with the expectations better. I know he's not a choker at heart, if he is, it's going to be tough times supporting him.

Just based on what I've seen so far, in my opinion, I would be surprised to see him finish that high. But, there is still a lot of tennis to be played so things can change.

I think he really has got to start improving on his non-slam results. If you look at his performance since the AO, he has lost in the 1st or 2nd round in 8 of the 10 tournaments played. I know a lot of them have been on clay but still...

This week he's not defending any points so any wins will help the ranking. Then his performance at Wimbledon will determine a lot too I guess. It'll be important to maintain his footing in the rankings so that he could be in the race for a USO seed, as there's just 2nd round points to defend there.

I would just really like to see him start doing better week in and week out and the ranking will follow. It will be disappointing if his results continue to be many 1st/2nd round exits with a QF here or there...

Yeah him being in the top 20 by years end is slightly above what I expect but hopefully he can start doing well in minor tournaments soon to help him along....I think that these last few months he's been trying to get more of an aggressive game and his slowly finding his balance of how he wants to play. Instead of just being a great counterpuncher that can vary shots he's pushing to add that power and aggression to his style. I hope and I believe that once he finds a bit more of a stable grounding as to how to play aggressively his results will be alot more consistent. Just my opinion. :)
