Lol. Perceptions can be deceiving.
Jonesies parents are not Very Wealthy.
His father works in construction on site, his mother works part-time as a carer and they live in a two bedroom apartment. They sold their house to buy a smaller place so they could help Greg.

Where did you hear that they were very wealthy?

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

I thought his returning was very weak as well. Might have been really rusty but i must say I was very disappointed with what I saw.

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

And Sho gets his revenge on the Men's tour 9 years later, beating a poor serving, slow moving Jones 57 67(5), with a bit of luck in the end. Jones just serving poorly in both sets, down to 11% at one stage, but improved throughout, but his moving needs to improve as well, although he did have a time-out for some treatment on his left knee, which saw him limping at times late in the 2nd set.
Hopefully Jonesie will play a lot more next year and work his way back up the rankings.

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

Jonesie pops up again - this time in the Toyota Challenger, using his PR to get into the Main Draw, as he has no points - after different injuries has seen him off competition for most of the year, playing only a handful of matches.
His draw luck was not running as he copped the No.1 seed, Matt Ebden, or was his luck running?
He came back from a break down to win the tb 7-1 and win the first set. Then Ebden took a Medical Time Out and started slapping serves and shots, before Ebden retires at 3-2, handing the match to Jones, who must have been very grateful to at least score some points, in the last tournament of the year, to carry into the New Year.

Jonesie now face WC Jap Sho Katayama, who he last played in the many years ago in the "Juniors", where Jones touched him up 0 & 0 in the final !!!

No doubt it will be a different affair on the slick Toyota courts, over 9 years later...

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

Anybody see Jonesie play in Toowoomba this week?
Just wondered how he is going.
I noticed he delivered three first set bagels in his three matches, including one against Saville, so must be showing some good form.
Unlucky against Saville imo in that he had 4 break points to go 4-0 up in the third and then also had four match points at the end of the set, but had no luck as Saville managed to squeek through.
No doubt Jonesie will be working even harder now...

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

I heard that Jonesie pulled out prior to the match but ATP forgot to withdraw him. Believe he is still not ready to play (serve that is) but is training in the USA.
Still gonna lose a shit-load of points for making the finals in Manta last year, where he lost to Russell

He isn't defending champion by the way. Michael Russell is.

Re: Greg Jones Cheering Thread

a very long way to go to pull out. I wonder if it is just a temporary flare up or whether he will have to come straight back home ala John Millman?
