Making a thread on Bernard Tomic as he makes his junior Grand Slam debut at the 2007 aussie open.

Congrats Bernard, he has made major strides in the last two years. Some beleive he is ahead of Lleyton Hewitt at the same age.

I suspect him to turn pro in the next two years and be playing Davis Cup not long after.

Residence: Gold Coast, Australia
Nationality: Australia
Weight: 55kg

Age Started Tennis: 7
Personal Interests: Soccer, table tennis, basketball

The only reason I can think of for him playing Stuttgart after Wimbledon if because he is taking the upcoming Davis Cup tie versus Germany very seriously and wants to improve as much as possible on the surface in order to give himself a chance of beating the likes of Mayer, Kohlschreiber, Haas on the dirt. If this is indeed his intentions I do support them.

RG seeds are based on the rankings after Rome. I believe the rankings after Halle and Queens are used for Wimbledon, but there is a formula (for the top 32) that determines the seeding.

They take the player's entry ATP points (the week before Wimby) and add:

1) ADD 100% points earned for ALL grass court tournaments in the past 12 months.

2) ADD 75% points earned for BEST grass court tournament in the 12 months before that.

So if tomic was seeded he would only get the points from 2010's best grasscourt showing added on? Or....that plus the points he got last year on all grass tournaments added aswell.... Eg plus another 360 for wimby and 58 for two semi challengers?

^I just thought I'd point out that this formula only applies to players seeded in the first place. If Tomic is world number 34 for example, his quarter-finals from last year will not get him a seeding. But if he is seeded it may help him a lot, perhaps giving him a top 24 seed (much, much better than a 25-32 seed which can be worse than not being seeded altogether as you are drawn to play a top 8 seed in round 3).

If he is top 32 at the time then I think his bonus points would be:

100% of all grass tournaments in 2011: 455 points (385 Wimbledon QF, 35 Nottingham SF, 35 Nottingham SF)

plus

75% of best grass tournament in 2010: 35 points from Wimbledon R1

Maybe StatRacket can help out, because I don't know if points from challengers are for sure counted or not..

I'm not sure of this either :(. It's pretty rare that someone is in a seeding position has grass challengers on their ranking breakdown.
