Re: Steven Diez

What the heck just happened there? He was playing well and then just imploded. I was watching some of the match on the live stream and it was just horrible, and it wasn't even because Masur was playing well.

Re: Steven Diez

Definitely improving this season even with a tough loss last match. Might be able to make Wimbledon Qualies if he has a few more good runs.

Re: Steven Diez

Back to Steven Diez. He lost his first round match today to Taro Daniel in unfortunate circumstances. Leading 5-2 with a double break – and having played some well-crafted tennis – Diez freakishly hit his own thumb with his racket. Following a medical time out, Diez was broken and, in some pain, went on to lose the set and the match. Diez had beaten Daniel twice before and was confident of progressing to the second round.

Still, for his 3 matches this week, he picks up EUR 4,680, not much less than the USD 7,762 for the 41 matches prior to this week. Mostly, I feel sympathetic he did not win another EUR 3,000.

Ranked 264, Diez is off to play two Challenger tournaments in Uzbekistan next week. We wish him well and hope to see him in London for Wimbledon qualifying.

Re: Steven Diez

Up a double break in the first set and manages to lose it...not good.

Re: Steven Diez

Qualifies with 2 great wins out of nowhere.

a1canada Nice easy win over a good clay player in Trungeletti, and good rebound from his first round loss in Turin to Bachinger.

He has been in pretty good form on clay, so hopefully a win or 2 in MD for some valuable ranking points!

Qualified for the 250 in Estoril!

Re: Steven Diez

Diez got bounced in final round of qualifying in the Torino Challenger event. Lost to Mathias Bachinger 64 62. Would've been nice had he qualified, so close. I'd like to see Diez become a regular on the Challenger circuit. He pretty much dominates the futures events on clay. So Challenger Circuit is the next step.

Another futures final for Diez in Spain.
