It is if his back ends up worse than before and he pulls out of Cincinnati as a result. But we shall see how the USO unfolds.

Regardless, I'll never ever underestimate Nadal's ability of stepping up when it really matters, especially in Bo5 matches.

With a bad back #94 / #20 looks as far as ever. It's a pity, with a proper preparation I would have liked his chances.
Yes, I am cursing at this unfortunate back problems.

That IW-Miami Federer would steamroll everyone on his way to USO title.

Oh well...I hope everything works for the best for him.

Re: Federer : The Mother Of All Quests : 20 Slams And 100 Titles.

The only thing that will stop Federer from winning the US Open this year is injury.

None of those still standing can match his play this year on hard court.

People predicting/hoping for a Nadal/Federer final are probably going to be disappointed.

#1 RAFA is one of my players, but he simply can't return on hard courts these days to save his life. He looks frightened to death and when he makes a return it too often doesn't go past the service line. He stands so far back these days, the line umpires could probably reach the ball before he could if they had racquets. Besides he and Uncle Toni have already said they don't want to play Federer in another final off clay. RAFA's serve isn't good enough to compensate for his return problems, and he will get broken too often against a player with belief. Look for an early exit from New York for Clay Warrior unless he has a fantastic draw.

Djokovic, Wawrinka, and Nishikori are gone for the year.

Murray hasn't played since Wimbledon and who knows if he will play in New York. Even if he does, there is little doubt he will be under-cooked.

That leaves the rest. The hot young players like Zverev and Kyrgios still have much to prove in majors. They will be fortunate to make a SF.

Del Potro still isn't up near his best match after match, though he can be a spoiler. Cilic is doubtful. Raonic doesn't seem a threat this year. Dimitrov is too inconsistent. Thiem is better on clay. Querrey might be the best American hopeful as Isner could be tired from his efforts, but one can't see either going further than the QF.

Probably Berdych is playing the best of the rest, but his misfortune has been to meet Federer of late and has been unable to win sets. The best playing Spaniard on hard courts of late, David Ferrer, is probably playing well enough again to reach a QF depending on the draw. The French Armada? Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, and Simon are just too weak (someone feed Simon please) to go all the way. Pouille hasn't been able to progress. Paire is on some other planet. Belgian Goffin is not strong enough.

Did I miss anyone significant?

One simply can't look past Roger for his 94th title and 3rd major victory of the year as long as he remains healthy.

Respectfully,
masterclass

good to hear and this is just as i had thought. Yes, if federer is seen early this week at the us open practice then good to go and if he plays on kids day well that is even more confidence he is doing well.

He likely starts on day 2 typically so that is roughly 10 more days to rest/practice before his opening match. And really i think he could get through week 1 even if slightly off.

By week 2 which is 17-18 days from now he would be 100% if its the same old back spasms so
hopefully this actually works in feds favor with more rest, less pressure, and maybe the competition thinking he will be off.

I hope it is really true, and not just some pr exercise by his team to calm down everyone's fear.
