Does anyone know if and where we can see the matches live on free tv in Germany?
I found nothing on the schedule of the so far regular broadcaster SPORT1(DSF).
The DTB says t.b.a. but I hope there is still a chance. Fed Cup will be broadcasted by SWR ...
Yes it's possible that Haas will play especially if Flo can't. But he wants to play doubles/mixed in London so although clay isn't his favourite court he would come.
The ITF has announced the official team nominations for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round ties, taking place on 10-12 February. In addition, Zone Group I and II first round ties are also being played on the same dates. The team nominations for these ties are currently being compiled and will be announced in due course. GERMANY v ARGENTINA
Venue: Stechert Arena Bamberg, Bamberg, GER (clay – indoors)
Germany
Florian Mayer
Philipp Kohlschreiber
Philipp Petzschner
Tommy Haas
Captain: Patrik Kuhnen
Argentina
Juan Ignacio Chela
Juan Monaco
David Nalbandian
Eduardo Schwank
Captain: Martin Jaite
Mayer is back after a long injury pause and was beaten by Mahut in Montpellier, he's not in top form but Kholi is in semi in Montpellier, he plays well and can be dangerous in DC
I'm not very pleased with this teams. For Germany, Kohli is sure the best choice. I'm not sure Mayer is a good choise in this surface and he is not 100% physically ready yet after his injury. It's not a good thing in 5 sets match on clay. If Berrer would had done his great run in Zagreb before, i think he would have ben good. He has a 3rd roundin RG last year. Petzchner or Haas are 50-50 for the second single. But Petzchner is set to play doubles. I don't understand why Kas is not here. He know very well with Petzchner and he has great start of season.
For Argentina, it's a pity than Del Potro dont play DC. Even if it's on clay. And i'm tired of Nalby situation. He doesn't play tournaments or one match and after he walk over and he still have his place in the team. Monaco, Chela and Berlocq, who improved a lot the last months, are better and obectives better choices. Berlocq can play doubles with Chela or Scwhank.
I think Argentina will win this one.
Horrible luck for Germany so far this season. They made a bold move to host the tie on clay (to eliminate Del Potro), but unfortunately the players are struggling for fitness at the worst possible time.
I'm doubtful about Mayer's groin. At full fitness, he'd potentially be a handful for the Argentines considering that he'd be playing on his favourite surface, and performed well on clay last season. However, I suppose that there would have been doubts about mental strength anyway.
As duong says, Kohlschreiber is capable of playing well on clay, and his form this season has been very good...confidence would be at its highest for a couple of years. Certainly dangerous, especially against Argentine #2 player.
I am very doubtful that Stebe could win a live singles this weekend. For me, the AO match against Hewitt gives a very good indication...talented player, but likely to struggle with stamina/nerves.
Haas shouldn't play singles...needs to conserve energy for doubles anyway.
Petzschner would really struggle imo. Nalbandian is a horrible match-up for him, and Monaco should grind him down.
Argentina should be targeting 2-0 tomorrow, barring any big surprises.
Petzschner's game might unsettle Monaco a little, but Pico should get the job done over 5 sets. Nalbandian is a bad match-up for Mayer, although I guess it depends which Bandy turns up. Will be interesting to see what shape Mayer is in.
The ITF has announced the draws for the 2012 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round ties and 24 Zone Group ties taking place on 10-12 February.

Philipp Petzschner (GER) v Juan Monaco (ARG)

Tommy Haas/Philipp Petzschner (GER) v Juan Ignacio Chela/Eduardo Schwank (ARG)
Florian Mayer (GER) v Juan Monaco (ARG)

I agree. If both Del Potro and Kohlschreiber would've played, it's terrible. If only Kohlschreiber and not Del Potro plays, it's still terrible.
Imo, Monaco is the big time favorite in both his matches no matter his German opponent on clay, and that's not even talking about Del Potro.
Indoor hard(like 50 of 50 in court speed ) against Nalbandian and Del Potro would be tough, but at least a chance for upset. I'd say when you have the far inferior team on paper you take the fastest court you can find with very few exceptions.. Or maybe they think higher of Kohlschreiber and Mayer than I do..
Argentina up 2-0 going into Saturday, but they mustn't get complacent.
Might be best to let the doubles go (rest Nalbandian), and focus on that remaining point in singles. Monaco should beat Mayer on current circumstances, although it was only last year that he was losing to him. Nalbandian is a wretched match-up for Petzschner, so Argentina should ensure that Dave is 100% ready for a live 5th if needed.
Therefore, it is perhaps best that Argentina lets the doubles go tomorrow (i.e. rest Nalbandian), as Germany would be tough to beat in that match anyway.
