After winning three matches and qualifying before losing to Lu in Chennai, Thiemo won two three-set matches in Australian Open qualifying over Brown and Marti, before losing 1-6 1-6 to Gojowczyk in the final qualifying round, as he was tired and lacked in confidence after a poor start in the match.
He planned to play Zagreb qualifying thereafter but rolled his ankle in training and returned for Davis Cup in s'Hertogenbosch vs Finland. He won his two singles rubbers and Netherlands won 5-0 over Finland.
In his last events, Thiemo played Rotterdam and Bath challenger and lost R1 in both events, to Troicki and Mertl respectively. He was not selected to the Davis Cup team for their upcoming tie vs Romania and his next scheduled tournament is Mersin, which starts in two weeks. Thiemo's current provisional ranking is #254.
He has been very selective with his schedule and hopefully this pays off for him physically and mentally. He will need some more points in his upcoming events to ensure a spot in the qualifying draw of the French Open. Hopefully he is successful and able to make a progression up the rankings and regain confidence in himself.
He lost the final against Arnaboldi 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 (a decent player but still he should have won this) and he retired in the next tournament in R1, the score was 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (looks like another choke).
He said on his twitter that his shoulder was irritated and he just need a little rest.
Thiemo won a match today! He is playing the F1 of Netherlands. Unbelievable to think 1.5 year ago he was inside the top 50 and that today he isn't even seed at a future event...
Anyway, he won against a qualifer Costam (930) 7-5, 3-6, 6-2... The scoreline doesn't look very good. Next round he's playing a brazilian guy ranked 608, Monteiro. He could met Huta Galung in the QF, that would be a nice match despite Thiemo's current level which doesn't seem enough against a such opposent.
Thiemo De Bakker [NED] d. Nick Van Der Meer [NED/8] 6-4 4-6 6-3 (they won together the final in double also!)
Congrats Thiemo for your 5th title in Future
He seems to be still struggling considering the scorelines of this week, but the most important is that he is playing and winning some matchs. I hope this gives him some confidence and motivation for the end of the year.
He should be playing soon some challengers on clay.
Third final in one month. He will play against Gerald Melzer tomorrow. I think he should win it, I was more afraid about his match against Westerhof. But you never know with his abilities to choke matchs ! GL for tomorrow
Thiemo won Netherlands F1
Thiemo won Netherlands F2
Thiemo was runner-up in Netherlands F3
Thiemo reached the semi-finals in Netherlands F4
Thiemo reached the quarter-finals of the den Haag challenger
You can notice that his form has dipped slightly, but it's encouraging that he's had none of those awful first round losses.
He will resume his match with Yannick Reuter tomorrow. Thiemo leads by one set, having clinched it 6-3. He'll be looking to wrap it up quickly and look ahead to the next round.
Won the Bercuit challenger. Just tiptoed into the top 200 with that victory.
